Glock 23 Holster suggestions for CC

#1

Post by Wojo »

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and I am waiting for my license to process. In the mean time I have looked into a lot of different holster brands and styles and I am a little over whelmed with the options. I am looking for some advise on choosing a good holster that will keep it pretty well concealed and held in place, without breaking the bank... I have been considering an IWB, but the instructor said that he doesn't suggest those for a Glock... On the other hand I am concerned that an OWB will be too bulky... Any help would be great, thanks!

Check out D.M. Bullard in Azle, Tx. He makes a holster he calls, "Dual Carry." It is great leather that last forever. It works for OWB and IWB. It rides close to your body which makes the pistol easy to conceal.

I don't carry my G23 as often as I do some of my other guns, but I've been using a kydex Blade Tech IWB for nigh on 15 years with good results. IWB isn't as comfortable as OWB, but it certainly facilitates concealment. I don't see the holster I have on Blade Tech's site any more; their designs have changed over the years. But I'd give them a look.

I know I'm like a broken record, but for me it's either crossbreed supertuck or aliengear for IWB.

First, you can carry a Glock IWB. But, as with ANY gun, you need to make doubly sure that all clothing and clothing bits are not in the way when holstering. By clothing bits, I mean zippers, strings, straps, flaps, etc.

Second, consider the holster a part of the total system. The backbone of that system is going to be a quality gun belt. Wal-Mart & Target don't sell gun belts. To hold up to the rigors and weight of carrying a fully loaded handgun, you will need a true purpose-made gun belt. I've been using Tucker Latigo Canyon belts practically from day 1 http://www.tuckergunleather.com/gun-belts. I opt for the added reinforcement. The first belt that I bought from them has held up to daily carry extremely well. Unfortunately, my mid-section exceeded the limits of the last hole and I had to buy another one.

As far as holsters go, don't go cheap. The holster I've been using for a few years now is made by a company that's no longer in business. But it's made on the same model as Crossbreed, Comp-tac, Blade Tech, etc - leather backing, kydex shell, 2 clips (on on either side of the shell). I tried a single clip with a larger gun, and fount that the holster tended to shift around a bit. Since I switched to 2 clips, I find carrying to be much more comfortable.

Last, think about a spare mag or 2. Comp-tac makes some pretty good mag holders that are tuckable http://www.comp-tac.com/magazine-pouche ... ouch-10223, which give you the option to have everything on your belt even if the setting is more formal.

I have a Glock 23 and only wear OWB all day everyday. The holster I have is not bulky. It's all leather and there is no holster company in the U.S that can match is prices. His belts are decent. They are not as stiff as a Tucker Gun leather belt, but hold my gun and magazine holders on my small frame body with no problem. I am not against the leather backed and Kydex type holders (ie: crossbreed ). I just do not like the sweat that builds up on my under shirt on a hot day in Texas. Plus, my pants need to be a bit larger to accommodate the width of the holster. Ilike my clothes to fit and gun to be apart of my daily wear. The all kydex iwb holsters are slimmer, as well as, Garrett Industries IWB holsters tend to be a bit slimmer. . I did not want 30 holsters, so I read what forum members suggested and did not cut corners. All of the manufactures mentioned in the post are excellent. I don't know why a person would spend $ 400 plus dollars on a gun, $ 1000s on ammo and then buy a cheap belt and cheap holster. The belt and holster should give the user 5 or more years of use. If you buy more than one you can rotate them and get longer use. WWW.ROSSGUN.COM leather holsters

I'm not real familiar with Glocks, but isn't the 23 the small double stack? if so you should be able to carry that IWB. take a look at kusiack leather for a holster. that's what I carry my LCP in, I really like the work and where it sits.

The 23 is the "compact" .40 caliber. Not as large as the 22, but significantly bigger than the 27. Standard magazine capacity is 13.

ah, it might have been the 27 I was thinking of. I should probably stick with guns I'm more familiar with :???:
