Judging from the tone of the above comments, it doesn't look like many of y'all
will be buying any of the pistols I just posted for sale in the Dick's ad!!! :-)

You acted like a jerk to an employee who was doing nothing but following company policy. Take it up with corporate, not some young man making minimum wage.

Actually, I would if I were in the market for any of those particular prices. I sure don't if they don't wanna sell to illegal aliens. It's not as though they are asking for passports or birth certificates.

I don't think anyone has caught what ought to be the issue.

Regarding illegal aliens, I have rent property and do not wish to rent to illegals. I've had questionably legal visitors to this country in a rent house and it ended with too much tension and assistance from law enforcement.

If the credit card terminal is asking the question, then that's probably the real issue. It's probably no surprise that everything you buy on a credit card is tracked to harvest information from you, but tracking ammunition as a special case is a little too much. I will agree on that.

But not selling ordinance to illegal aliens? Done right, good on them.

Appreciate the comments, but I think about 70% of you kind of missed the point. The clerk flat out lied to me - through ignorance or misinformation it doesn't matter. When he lied to me he wasn't doing his job. If he was doing his job he would have said "it always asks that but I am not sure why, and I can understand it might offend some people - would you like me to get a manager and see if we can get around it". If you had seen the expression on his face that I did you might have a different viewpoint. Come to think of it, that may be what got me started. Point in fact however, I wasn't rude, I was forceful. At no time did I turn red in the face, cuss, point fingers, or act like a crazy person (my posterior was never shown, thank you very much, unless you, consider showing indignation the same thing - I don't). I wasn't rude, but I was loud enough that everyone heard (BECAUSE THEY NEEDED TO BE EDUCATED) about Dick's nosy policy. I did thanked both him and the manager for trying and told them where I would be buying my ammunition in the future. I bet somewhere along the line they get a chance to give feed back to those above them and fellow employees. That is the way it works at my place. Everyone above me wants to know about unhappy clients (customers) and they are usually peeved if we didn't make every effort to solve the problem and make them happy even it meant bending corporate policy a bit.

I too am proud to be an American Citizen, but still, it is absolutely and without question NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. It offend me the same way it would have if they asked me if I was gay or voted for Trump or was married. That would be NO,YES and YES in case you were wandering Mr.Nosy. I know some of you will say, but that's not the same, but dig down intelligently and it is the same. Academy does ask for your zip code and I am sure its just for market research, but you can bypass it if it bothers you. Anyone who thinks contacting corporate about it will have some effect is simply wrong. I have done this over different irrational corporate polices over the years probably a dozen or more times. Nothing changed and only twice did I even receive a reply and even then it was cookie cutter "thanks for contacting us" generic reply - nothing more. I don't waste my time doing that any more. At a corporate level they couldn't give a rat's rear end as long as the money is flowing. And no,I am not anti-corporate.

I can still use Dick's to good effect however as Academy has told me they will price match them any day of the week.

Have a good one!

The thing is Dick's is asking if one is a lawbreaker, a criminal if you will. Illegal aliens are everyone's business. Asking is just a start but it is at least something. Something that our governments seem so reluctant to do. We voted in a president over this issue, and now we reject a retail store because of this issue. It's time we identified the criminal element in our country and started denying them the free stuff and other rights and kicked them out.

It was just a simple question, takes 1 second to answer it. I have never been inside a Dick's, never had a reason too, but I will go to the one at BayBrook as soon as it opens because they have at least taken a stand against illegal aliens. Something that Academy and Cabela's has not.

I would have pressed the one saying I WAS an illegal alien and seen what happened, especially if I wasn't planning on purchasing after that anyway. :biggrinjester: Academy ask for zip code and Northern Tool ask for your phone number, both can be "by-passed" or can be made up and the purchase will still go through. I'm pretty sure the Dick's policy could have been by-passed too, but I will never know because I don't shop there and unless they giving away there stuff for free, I never will. Not because of this policy, but because they are over priced, poor selection, anti-gun and not helpful IF you can find someone to ask. I'm not going to tell anyone to shop there or not, that's your choice. :tiphat:

Actually, he didn't. Illegal aliens fall under the prohibited persons category of the Gun Control Act.

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/identify-p ... ed-persons

Identify Prohibited Persons

The Gun Control Act (GCA), codified at 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), makes it unlawful for certain categories of persons to ship, transport, receive, or possess firearms or ammunition, to include any person:

convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

who is a fugitive from justice;

who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, codified at 21 U.S.C. § 802);

who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution;

who is an illegal alien;

who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;

who has renounced his or her United States citizenship;

who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner; or who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Even though it was actually the credit card processor that asked the question, I agree with this comment.
