If you could only carry a revolver

If you could only carry a revolver what would you run? Caliber? Barrel Length? Finish? I would go with the S&W model 19 carry comp 357 mag.

I like if you could only topics. Make this a fun discussion

It’s a hoot to shoot as well

  • .357 Magnum,
  • 4”-5” barrel,
  • stainless steel frame and barrel, otherwise a scandium frame with SS cylinder and barrel insert,
  • Hogue rubber grips (or their equivalent),
  • cylinder capacity 6 or more,
  • S&W or Ruger, but most probably S&W.
WAIT!!! I already HAVE this gun!

I can't believe no one's mentioned Ruger. GP100 and SP101 are great choices, but my own personal favorite is the old Speed-Six, which fits in right between those two. .357 Magnum or .38 Special +P, 2-3/4" or 4" barrel (or 3" if you can find a Border Patrol or Postal Service version [like mine]), accurate, durable, and most are old enough to have smoothed out the action through long-time use.

After 30 plus years of owning my Smith 686 357 mag i would trust it anywhere. I have carried it only a handful of times only because trying to conceal a four inch revolver is easier in the winter. With only a shirt on in the summer it looks like i'm carrying a seventy five inch TV set on my hip.

In this day and time, if I could only carry a revolver, I would opt for the RUGER REDHAWK 357MAG DA 2.75 SS. It is a .357 beauty and as an added bonus, it has an 8 round cylinder. The only downside to this fine gun would be that it weighs 44 ounces. You would need a good gun belt and holster to support it.

I side with the OP, my S&W Model 19. Current one I have had for more than 35 years and it has always worked flawlessly. Used it to take the DPS LTC Instructor course and shot an easy 250. Original Model 19 I bought in 1974 and was stolen in a home robbery in 1985. My back-up would be my S&W Model 36 with the 3" barrel.
