There are several threads on this topic. I think the last one went on for 16 pages or so.
If you do a search, you will find that it is a contentious topic around here.

Re: Open carry in Texas?
No one knows what the future will bring, but I doubt that we will see open carry in Texas in the near future. For a couple of reasons.
There are other fish to fry. School carry, workplace carry and parking lot carry are issues that seem to draw more attention with those that want to take up the fight. The Priority of these things weighed against the opposition they could expect make this a dead issue. While many of us of us would like the right to open carry, there is isn't much of a compelling issue to convince the general public that this is a good idea. In fact the main reason I don't believe that we will see an open carry law ever passed is that there are to many people in the CHL community who are outspokenly opposed to it. How will we ever convince those whop are nuetral about open gun rights that its a good idea when there are so many "gun people" that are opposed to it.
This is what I believed killed the parking lot bill earlier this year, Many conservative folks who normally are pro gun wouldn't get behind a bill that some saw as restrictive to private property rights.
This is why the the antis aren't really the enemy, but it is the folks that are supposed to be on our side that tend to kill pro gun bills
