Springfield XD sights

#1

Post by scshaffer06 »

Hey guys does anyone have any experience with any sights on the XD? Looking to start in USPSA shooting and i really am having a hard time with the stock sights in low light.

Thanks,
Chris Shaffer

I put XS Big Dot night sights on the XD that I carry daily and couldn't be happier with them. They're a whole lot easier for my aging eyes to see.

I have TruGlo TFO (Tritium Fiber Optic) sights on mine. Great in the day and night.

I also have TFO's. Great sights.

One thing to consider. The XD's have pressed on sights and they are difficult (read, really hard) to get off.

Get a 32 oz hammer and a 1/2" brass punch, a good padded vise and hit it very very hard. Then when the front sight breaks, bring out the dremmel tool to cut off the remainder.

Honestly, replacement is not for the faint of heart. A standard sight removal tool will NOT do the job.

Ya i keep reading that they are a pain in the butt to get off, but no one ever says how hard it is to get the new ones on and centered? I have done a lot of machine work in the past so getting the old one off will be no big issue for me, but i worry about getting a new one on and set.

I just got a set of Trijicon, have not installed them yet. They look pretty bright in the night. And they have white ring around the glowing part so I think that helps in the day too. The other Trijicon sight on my 1911 does not have white ring around, so I find it a bit difficult to see when I'm shooting in the indoor range.

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
