Well I did it,,,I have converted to Glock

#1

Post by Supercat »

For years I have been a 1911 nut, I like to think I Know everything about them mechanically and technologically.
A month ago I went shooting with a friend who brought a G-17 and I had the priviledge of putting 50 rounds or so down range. Well a month later I own 2 G-17's one for me and one for my wife(she retired her Taurus after shooting it).

The main reason for bringing this up is I have been less than a proponet of Glock pistols to this point (I was taught buy someone in the past who did not like them and that stuck with me). :banghead:

Well I am posting a sincere apology to all Glock owners out there for all the uneducated, unexpierenced words I have ever uttered about the weapon.

And to say I am a newly added lover of Glocks. working on my third one now, a G21C.

Anyone know of any stores in DFW that sell Glock aftermarket parts? (ss guide rods, mags, slide locks, etc...). I know there are tons of web sites but I like to buy in my local area if I can.

Well another one bites the dust

I actually own a G21 and it is with me quiet often. I also have 1911's as well as an XD 45. So I guess I'm in the undecided group. All do the job they are designed for and I shhoot all equally as well.

Just keep an eye on it around LT. He may want it for himself. :evil2:

I Don't want anyone to think I have sworn off 1911's I will continue to have them in my gun safe, but let me just say that in my holster on my hip sits a G-17.

Don't feel too bad...I've been shooting Glocks for several years. I still carry a 1911 some of the time but I find myself doing it less and less. Glocks are simple and there is little about them that isn't specifically dedicated to the purpose of putting lead down range. I have some very reliable 1911's but it's hard to escape the benefits of the Glock system once you've spent some unbiased time with it.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

I am glad that you are happy with that pistol and putting it to good use. i was the same way about Glocks until I got that 17 and then had to have a 19... now I have a few 19's and I like them.

Of course I was a SIG guy for a long time, but my eyes were opened to 1911's and that awesome single action trigger pull. :clapping:

On one hand, I am happy for you, that you found "the" gun that works best for you. On the other hand, somewhere a puppy has died tonight.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Funny you say that, I have two dogs that are chunky, Black and verry good at their job. Walk in my house with bad intentions you may meet 2 70 pound (Glogs,,,Glock Dogs :boxing ) before the real Glock is even out of bed. :fire

If you go to the local gun shows, you'll find most of the aftermarket stuff available. One vendor is Big State Distributors, he is a Glock armorer and I've bought extended slide stop levers and night sights from him. He will install stuff on the spot.
He and Schramm's have had a price war on Glock mags at recent shows, with prices as low as $12 each.

Supercat - welcome to the Glock fan club! We forgive you for your years of ignorance.

And for HV - well, you should be ashamed of yourself! :totap:

It's okay. Don't look into the light, put the Glock in the safe, take two Tums and go back to sleep. Your 1911 will be there in the morning.

Get the mags and some sights. T.R. Graham is at the gunshows and can install the sights. Don't try to make it a 1911 by loading it down with aftermarket parts.

I was really only looking to replace the Guide rods with stainless right now as I shoot allot and I heard the plastic ones wear.

Ture or false? I heard this from a somewhat credible source.

My two favorite guns are my two Glocks.

In my opinion they're the most perfect, reliable tools I've ever owned.
