Finally--A school that GETS IT

The seminary where I am a student and where I work in security has been pretty clear-eyed and proactive about thinking through all of the recent school shootings and the implications for security on our campus. So, the administration has done a bit of head scratching over the fairly obvious fact that ALL school shootings take place in GUN FREE ZONES. Well, they went with the obvious conclusion and . . . took down the Gun Free School Zone signs that are placed around the border of the school property :clapping: . The signs were replaced with a sign that says "Campus patrolled by armed security" (which it is). I have never heard of any school anywhere doing this, but I applaud them for being logical about this and choosing to no longer advertise our students as easy victims.

Maybe a step in the right direction, but there is a glaring problem still lingering...

Number one, we'd still have to get the law revised to allow staff, faculty and students who are licensed in this state, and those with reciprocity to carry concealed on their persons in these facilities...Thats almost too big a hump to hurdle over...

And still, even IF that were to happen, some of the schools would continue to post, opposing this change...

I know...I woke up on the negative nancy side of the bed this morning... ;-)

I wish someone was organizing to petition the Governor the next time one of these school shooting happen. If so, we could ask Perry to call for a special session to allow carry at all schools and events. It would take us as CHL holders to do much of the grass roots campaigning and encouraging our friends and family. I have already done so in asking those I know if they would support it. If they say yes, I ask if I can use their name and info to write e-mails or letters for them. Everyone has agreed since they want to do something but don't have time or they don't really know what to say. It works and if they are contacted they get confirmation that their voice is making a difference. It is some work for each issue but worth it to have those extra voices behind us.

I am concerned that 2009 is to long to wait and that Texas students are going to suffer the consequences of our legislatures inaction. I understand their reservations, as well, those arguments of "doom" have been proven false before. I believe there is a time for caution and a time for action. I think this is a time for action.

uh Stevie....

If the school administration gives permission either in writting or by policy, CHLs can carry there.
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.

The Texas Legislature only meets and takes action in the odd years.
