i need suggestions for a gun for my wife

Re: i need suggestions for a gun for my wife
My wife loves the Ruger SR9 and the Smith & Wesson .40 sub-compact. She is a smaller woman and those guns fit her great. There is also the XD sub-compact. Those are my suggestions however I agree with everyone else...take her to a store and let her handle a few of them and then see what she likes best. I know a few Store owners who teach the CHL class that will also take you to the range and let her fire the guns to see which one she likes best. All she would have to pay for the ammo. When all is said and done it is whatever she feels the most comfortable with.

This has also been discussed in several other threads, so you might visit them to see if you find any more helpful information:

Personally, I'm going to agree with others above, and see if you can expose her to as many different types of guns as possible so that she can decide what's best for her. Finding a range that has a good selection of pistols and revolvers to try out would be one of the best ways to do this. I know a range (Red's) in Austin that has a "Ladies' Night" and gives free rentals and range time to women on those nights to help women try out different guns. I'm not sure if there's a range like this near you, but someone here might know.

Several of the women I know that shoot like Glocks for their wide grip on the slide. It makes it easier to grip and operate it when they chamber a round or eject a stuck casing. Sounds like a gun show is in your future!
There will always be prayer in schools as long as there are tests.

Re: i need suggestions for a gun for my wife
My wife practiced with the guns I own as well as rented several at ranges. A few kind people at the ranges have allowed her to shoot a variety of other guns. Overall she is most comfortable with the Glock 19 and was able to operate it with a little practice. She can shoot my Glock 23 but likes the 19 better. She hates my LCP with a passion. She has tried a Bersa thunder .380 and liked it but we were not impressed with the reliability. She has not liked any of the snub nose revolvers that everyone pressured her to fire and buy. (S&W, Rossi, Ruger) She does however have an affinity for her father's S&W 4" .38. She tried a Glock 17 but felt it was too big and had difficulty operating the slide on a G26. So.......She is a crack shot with the G19!
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.

What reliability problems did you have with the Bersa? After well over 1000 rounds have only had one time that mine had any problem. When I first got it, I bought some cheap Eastern European ammo from the range and one round failed to fully eject. I have yet to talk to anyone who owns one tell me it was unreliable.

Re: i need suggestions for a gun for my wife
The Bersa I owned would frequently fail to feed and go into full battery. I tried a bunch of different ammo and still experienced the same issues about every 20 rounds. The other issue was that the slide hold open would often fail to lock the slide back after the last round or would disengage when replacing the magazine with a full one. I had a few failures to eject early on but that seemed to fix itself. I really liked the pistol as this was the first pistol I purchased for home defense. I liked the fact that it had a manual safety.
