.380 ammo
Help I need some .380 ammo for my new lcp it's gonna be my main carry. I've had the hardest time finding ammo for it I would at least want to put 50 fmj through it so I know it works. I did order some Speer gold dots that will be here tomorrow but too expensive to shoot if anyone knows where to pick some fmj up on the Katy Houston area let me know. I did find some indapendance fmj but I refuse to pay 39.99 for 50. Thanks in advance

Wished I could help you , but that was one main reason I sold my LCP , lack of ammo supply....

Re: .380 ammo
My go to place is Academy Sports First. They seem to have it more readily available than anyone else. The price is right too for $14.99 for a box of 50(Monarch Brand).
Then Wal-Mart. Then Bass Pro Shop. Then Cabela's.
Lastly, get out the phone book and start calling the gun stores. I've found they are MUCH more expensive than the above, but have some in stock.
CALL BEFORE YOU GO! Call several locations that are accessible to you. Have them hold a box or 2 for you.
This is the only way I forage for ammo, and I've had pretty good luck with it. And good luck to you!

Re: .380 ammo
Academy sometimes has .380.
My next suggestion (if you're near one) is to order from Cabela's. They will have it shipped to the store at no charge, and you can pick it up there.
A 250-round box of Magtech is around $110, but shows on backorder with a lead time of about a week:

500 rounds of Herter's brass-cased stuff is $150 and shows as in stock, meaning you'll have it in a few days:

Re: .380 ammo
Man, I really want a .380 but I just can't justify it to myself when ammo is so difficult and/or expensive to come by. I wonder if it's ever going to get any better.

Re: .380 ammo
Ammoman.com has some imported stuff. It looks kind of expensive, but I've had good luck buying from them in the past. Slightly off topic - Academy in Lewisville, TX had 100rd bulk packs of Winchester White Box 9mm for 24.99. Not bad. I bought two.

Re: .380 ammo
Well, it's already a LOT better than it was 6 months ago. .380 plinking ammo was complete unobtanium there for a while, save for the few folks on TGT or GB that decided they'd part with the stuff they'd hoarded for 2.5x normal price. I simply stopped shooting .380 at all, saving the couple hundred rounds I had left for a special occasion or until it became available again.
I had about a 3-week wait in the month of December for steel-cased Herter's from Cabela's. Now the brass-cased stuff is immediately available, and that's a good sign. It seems that availability is slowly but steadily getting better.

Re: .380 ammo
Don't give up, buying .380 is simply a different process than just picking up 9MM at Wal-Mart. I pop into Academy everytime I drive by and check; it's just a matter of time. I found an ample supply in September, and again in February. You've just gotta' get enough to last you through 6 months or so.
I'm sure that everyone here will back me up when I say that the LCP won't be your favorite range gun, but will likely be your favorite carry gun-Don't get discouraged, the LCP is an awesome gun that carries like a little black unbreakable comb.

I trolled by the gun/ammo counter of the Wal-Mart in Jacksonville yesterday AM. Lo and behold ,there was some WWB on the shelves in .380 acp, .38 Spec, 9mm, .40 and .45 acp. There were also bulk packs of Win and Fed .22 LR's, among others.

Re: .380 ammo
Wally in SW Ft Worth had some 380 Remington JHP today when I wondered through today 100 count box, lady said they had 10 boxes of Winchester White early in the morning but it was gone by noon. I've still got plenty of 380 what ever I shoot up seems to be what I have heck finding.

Re: .380 ammo
40 bucks for Independence ammo!! What a rip off. In fact I remember when I had to qualify for my last chl class and the stuff jammed every other round in my bersa .380. The instructor said we had to use a well established brand for shooting. I brought black hills but he said I should use the federals. After the 4th jam I told him I had Black Hills ammo and he told me to try it. I didn't have any ftf after that. IMO black hills is the best quality ammo for the price. Certain guns don't like certain brands of ammo and Black hills has always feed well through my firearms. Also I have had little problems with Magtech but blazer and especially Fiocchi I have have bad batches(boxes) that only 50% fired. Of course most local places don't carry black hills and you have to order it online. Try the black hills when ever the online companies have some in stock. It is well worth it.
