Runners/Cyclists... how do you carry?
I just picked up a new LCP for summer carry and also for when I'm running. I always feel most vulnerable when I run, usually because it's either early morning or late evening.
The trouble is that I haven't come up with a good carry method. I'm definitely not one of those types that wears skintight outfits (what an image! ); usually it's just shorts and a T-shirt. I've heard mixed reviews on the shirts with built-in holsters (forgot the name), and no hip holster I know of would be secure enough. Fanny pack is a big no for me too.
I'm thinking about looking into armbands for MP3 players or similar eqipment; usually nobody give electronics on a runner a second look with heart rate monitors, iPods, and other stuff now commonplace.
Any ideas?

Re: Runners/Cyclists... how do you carry?
When I trained up for the Austin half 2 yrs ago, I purchased sort of mini butt pack (refuse to call it a fanny pack). I got it at luke's locker, and it fit, small emergency runner's poncho, my iPhone, and a house key. It was reflective, and neoprene. It could've easily fit an LCP or like....but I never carried when I ran.
I'm not against...I just never did. Cycling, I use a camelback and it would easily hold guns much larger.

I have never carried while running. I live on a dead-end street that is about a 1/4 mile long, I just run up and down the street.

Intuitively I think anything in the waist would be an issue without a belt or a fanny pack of some kind.

Amphipod makes several hyrdation belts that come with expandable storage pockets. I'd be surprised it your LCP didn't fit into one of those.
And, to be clear, a storage pocket is NOT a fanny pack!

Re: Runners/Cyclists... how do you carry?
I run between 7 and 9 miles every morning 6 days a week, so I get a lot of mileage. I carry a walther tph in a small IWB holster that I got off ebay. It is small and light enough so that it does not tug on the shorts too much. I am thinking about switching to a fanny pack as it will allow me to carry a bigger gun as well as a cell phone, which I currently don't carry. The only thing I don't like about the fanny pack concept is a slow draw. The small and slim Walther is totally hidden and I assure you, no one expects I am carrying anything. If I did have to use it, I would completely surprise an attacker. If I were going to purchase a gun specifically for jogging, I would almost certainly go with the LCP. The Walther is the gun I own, so that is the one I carry for my pre-dawn run.

I'm no runner, but we do bike some.
You are on the right track with the MP3 player case. Go to Wal-Mart or any big store and look at all the options.
Do you suppose anyone would notice the lack of a wire coming from yours?
This would be the best option in my opinion.
Keltec makes a side clip for their P3At. I understand it also fits the LCP, perhaps with minor tweaking
Keltec also makes a neck lanyard. The ring mounts to a screw that replaces the plastic pin at the rear of the grip.
should fit that LCP also.
All of these are under $20, so try them all and pick the one that works best for you.
Personally, I could not run with a gun on my waistband. My pants would be around me ankles within a few steps.
If you have hips, you might have better luck ;)

Re: Runners/Cyclists... how do you carry?
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Good info here
I'll be checking out the MP3 players soon. I wonder if a larger one would carry my iPhone AND the LCP or if it would end up being too thick... hmm....
Hah! One of the reasons I'm running is to get rid of the extra pounds. After that, maybe I'll have hips again!Rex B wrote:Personally, I could not run with a gun on my waistband. My pants would be around me ankles within a few steps.

Google Paleo Zone diet. It's what the crossfit gym I go to has me on. It's more like a healthy lifestyle when it comes to food, but you will melt pounds off, and your fitness ability will soar. A lot of them have a pocket in the front.MadMonkey wrote: I'll be checking out the MP3 players soon. I wonder if a larger one would carry my iPhone AND the LCP or if it would end up being too thick... hmm....
don't forget to look at GPS pouches too.
That's what I use when hiking. Holds Elsie Pea, GPS, phone, and a few other little things.

I ran the Rock n Roll half and the Cowtown marathon with a S&W 442 in the hip pocket of my running shorts. I carry it in a Blackhawk size 3 pocket holster, and everything stays in place pretty well.

Most often I use a camel back to carry when I run. Not the fastest deployment, but a lot faster than leaving it in the car.
Sometimes I'll just wrap my shirt around my 642 and hold it in my left hand (pointed down). Very quick to get to and still pretty well concealed. No one's ever said anything to me at least.

If you can arrange to have a baby, there's a lot of room in the BOB jogging stroller.
If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn, I could arm a town the size of Abilene.
