Beretta PX4 9mm sub, Crossbreed Supertuck

Hello Gentlemen,
Yesterday I traded some old guns for a Beretta PX4 9mm sub compact. About two months ago I purchased a Ruger SR9C 9mm. There is little difference in the physical size, the most notable being an overall shorter slide on the PX4. The staggered magazine on the Beretta makes for a little 'beefier' grip, but, the gun fits my hand perfectly without having to use either of the two provided extra backstraps. The ambidextrous safety is just a little bit high to be used without some extra hand movement......the Ruger has a better placement. The gun comes with two, 13 round magazines, however, only one has the flip-down extension to accommodate the little finger. This should have been on both mags. The highly touted luminescent Superluminova® 3 dot sights aren't anything to write home about. The plain white dots on the Ruger show up better with my old eyes.
Field stripping is very quick and simple. The action is extremely smooth, as is the double action trigger pull. Although the DA pull is long, it is easy enough to manually cock the hammer into the SA mode. Fit and finish is what one would expect from Beretta.....top shelf. A Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe was purchased for my Ruger SR9C and only recently have I had an opportunity to use it (a broken leg set me back a while).
This IWB holster is THE most comfortable holster I have ever used, bar none. Placing it at about the 4 o'clock position (just behind my hip bone) it simply disappears. The weapon remains easily accessible and just as easy to reholster. I am so impressed with the Supertuck, I have ordered one for the PX4, without hesitation.

By the way, I'm not sure if you know this but the country
singer Miranda Lambert, from Lindale, TX (on the north
border of Tyler for you non-area folks) has her CHL.

Her dad is an ex-LEO. Her folks run a detective agency
and I believe both parents have their CHL's too.

Thank you for the 'welcome', gentlemen and, yes, I knew about Ms. Lambert being from Lindale, but, didn't know about the family.....interesting.

Didn't make it to the range today and probably won't make it tomorrow due to dr.'s appointments. I may be able to get there Friday, if so, I will provide a range report on the PX4 that evening. If it is anywhere close to the Ruger SR9C (I'm hoping it will be considerably better), I will be happy.

Not to hijack the thread, but I picked up the new Miranda Lambert CD over the weekend. It's another great one if you're a Miranda fan. Lots of attitude wrapped up in a strong southern drawl. She has a song called, "Time to Get a Gun" tha makes me think of this forum every time I hear it. It doesn't surprise me in the least that she has her CHL.

I was reading in another forum that someone was having a lot of trouble with FTE's when using WWB ammo in their Taurus 709 slim. Have you had any problem with yours? Does it seem to be ammo sensitive? Can't say about the PX4 yet, but, my Ruger SR9C has digested everything I have fed it from day one without a hiccup! And that includes a lot of cheapo ammo, WWB, Federal, etc.....Wally World $9.50/box stuff. Like I said before, I hope the PX4 functions as well as the Ruger and I will be most happy.

I'm incredibly happy with my fullsized .40 PX4... kinda thinking about getting a SubCompact one for those days when I want to be a little lower profile (but not carrying just a 5-shot revolver).

Anyone know if my Crossbreed for my big PX4 would fit a SC model as well?

I can tell you that the Supertuck for the Ruger SR9 fits perfectly on the SR9C. As far as the Beretta sub, your best bet would be to call Crossbreed or send them an email. They are great folks to deal with and respond quickly to email.

Haven't made it to the range yet today. It is looking slim for doing so.......hopefully tomorrow, I just hate going on the weekend when it is so much more crowded. But, I WILL get it soon!!!

Ok gang, I made it to the range today......one word, impressive. I put over 200 rounds through the weapon with the only hiccup being a failure of the slide to lock open after a last round. This only happened once, about midway through the shooting. I was firing Wally World cheapo Federal ball ammo and was surprised at the accuracy. At 25', it was very easy to maintain 13 rounds in a 2" group. Muzzle jump was minimal making it easy to re-acquire the target. Rapid firing at 12' is easy to keep the shots in a 6" circle.

Having an UpLula for loading the magazines is a blessing, the last few rounds in the mag would be a beotch without it! The first shot in DA has a really long trigger pull, probably approaching 10 lbs, however, the second shot in SA is wonderful, estimating the pull between 4 and 5 lbs. The sear release was very smooth, indicative of a quality weapon. I found the installed grip backstrap to be very comfortable and did not need to try the other two that came in the kit. The safety/decocker lever could have been positioned a little lower for easier access by an old arthritic thumb. The kit contains two magazines, however, only one has the flip down extension that allows a comfortable three finger grip (room for your pinky). This should have been on both mags! The mags are both 13+1. The first thing I noticed was a discernable soft recoil that, from what I have read, is likely due to the rotary breech design.

Comparing the PX4 sub compact to my Ruger SR9C, the PX4 is "beefier" and has a slightly shorter slide. In spite of the beefier feel and look, it will still qualify as a good CC weapon.

Field stripping could not be easier. No need for details, just know that it is quick and easy. Even after over 200 rounds, the gun was surprisingly clean. I could have got by with simply running a patch down the barrel.

The only dislike I have for this gun are the atrocious sights. The "Superluminova®" dots may be great after dark, but, are useless in a well lit environment. I will be changing out the sights as soon as I can find an acceptable replacement, i.e. Hi Viz or Glock style white dots. If you already own a Ruger SR9C you should not spend the money on a PX4, unless, like me, you just really like the looks of it. Even though the PX4 looks and feels heavier, it is actually lighter than the Ruger SR9C........PX4=26.1 oz. empty, SR9C=26.6 oz. empty.

Bottom line, it is a great gun and you can't go wrong buying one.

EDIT: Just for grins, I shined a single LED penlight into the Superluminova® dots for just a few seconds each and they became significantly bright green lights! I know that one would not be able to tell a bad guy coming down your darkened hallway to hang on a minute while I charge up my sights, but, it was over 20 minutes ago that I put the light on the sights and they are still quite bright. They just may be better than my first impression.
