Another addition to the family... (Ruger 10/22)

I've been wanting a Ruger 10/22 and today I finally got off my butt and went to get one. I got the "all weather" model (synthetic stock with a stainless barrel). I can't wait to get this little sucker out to the range for some cheap target shooting! And this will be perfect for my god-son (and eventually my own children) to learn how to safely shoot and handle firearms. Time for some accessories!

CONGRATS! I took mine out of the safe last night and put it in the case along with my new high-cap mags and speed loader (this is a MUST-HAVE for this gun, SERIOUSLY!) for a little camping trip this weekend. Haven't shot it in years but it's one of my favorite guns. Mine is nothing fancy, it has the wood (composite wood, sort of green/grayish if that makes sense) stock with stainless barrel and a color-matching 4x Simmons scope. It's FUN and CHEAP to shoot...the CHEAP part is probably the best. It's all bone stock, no mods....maybe someday?

I have a new barrel on a UPS truck somewhere. I need a 10/22 action so that I can complete a "10/22 build" that will go along with my 1974 10/22 Deluxe.

I wonder why no one makes and sells inexpensive 10/22 receivers. As much as that lil rifle is modified, you'd think someone would sell "stripped receivers" like with AR-15s. A google search finds only expensive ($180 at Brownells) and ridiculous ($400 and up for a Volquartson at MidwayUSA) ... you can walk into any Wal Mart or Academy and buy a full rifle for $180-$200. Why does just the receiver cost so much, when that is usually the only part most people keep if they truly trick out one of these (wait for it ..... ..... yeah, I probably just answered my own question - supply and demand). Makes you wonder what kind of extraordinary good deals you could get assembling 10/22s from discarded stock parts (barrels, stocks, trigger groups) if you could just find a supply of receivers

Most serious builders just buy the receiver and build from there. The casual builders like myself buy the cheapest one they can find and build on the factory receiver. I do have a factory blued barrel, barrel band and stock if anyone is looking though.

YES! I picked up two 550 rd boxes at walmart today for $30.00 (plus tax). Unbelievable! Now if I could get some 5.56 or some .40 cal at that price!! (wishful thinking!)

Yeah, tell me about it, I put a pencil to what I have tied up in this thing the other night.....

The scope is just a Simmons Aetec Master Series 2.8-10 x 44 in Warne rings & bases. The stock is a Hogue Overmold in Ghillie Green. The mag release is a Tactical Solutions and it is SWEET! Yes I installed it myself along with a Clark Customs trigger kit, (2.5# and VERY short reset) and a quick bolt release. If you can do an AR, the 10/22 is a piece of cake. I didn't even have to remove the receiver to install the mag release.

The barrel is threaded and as soon as I get my NFA trust completed, I will be buying a suppressor for it as well.

What color are you going to Duracoat the receiver? I wish I could find someone to anodize mine to match my barrel. I could Duracoat it OD green but it won't look the same.

I believe the Aetec is a step or two above the 22 Mag scopes, but I have been spoiled here recently. I finally broke down and bought a Leupold Mark IV and NOW I see the difference in the quality of glass since I own one. I used to scoff at paying that much for a scope, but there IS a difference and it's a big one. I used to love my Aetec scopes but they look like garbage now compared to the Leupold. Now I'm not going to go off the deep end and put a $1k scope on a 10/22 but for the right rifle it is well worth the $$ spent.
