funny story check it out

#1

Post by chunk »

A friend of mine (who is not near the gun guy i am) is interested in purchasing a 300 RUM for deer hunting!! First of all the only to guns he owns are a ruger 10-22 and a ruger mark 1 pistol. I then asked him why the 300 ultra mag. His response "because it will kill anything". I agreed but a 300 RUM for east Texas piney woods hunting may be considered over kill, literally. My next question was have you ever shot one ( I have they are not for an novice shooter). After finding out the has NEVER fired a centerfire rifle i decided to take him to the gun range and test some of mine. I brought a mini -14 .223, rem 700 243, a ruger hawkeye 308 and rem 700 7mm mag. I thought that would be a pretty good assortment for a rookie. After making sure that he was holding the rifle correctly against his shoulder he fired the mini-14 his response was hilarious " the recoil on that kinda of hurts". He did not shoot another gun that day. The best part of the whole story is that he is still planning on buying the 300 RUM and i have to be honest i hope he does. Then i will get a 300 RUM cheap or maybe free.

Thanx for listening it was alot funnier to see in person

AND.... FYI,
Have a roll of toilet paper handy...AND, don't be ANY WHERE near a tree !! He might want to wrap ( bust ) the rifle around it, after he splits his eyebrow open !

When I was at the Fort Worth gun show last weekend, I saw a really nicely customized heavy barreled bolt rifle in .300 RUM based on a Remington 700 action, and I thought of you. Get him to a gun show and show him that rifle. Then you get a really nice rifle in the bargain!

I own a Sako 300 Remington Ultra Mag. Went to sight that thing in and after about three shots every one after that made my eyes water. That rifle is no joke and is NOT fun to shoot at all. I put a muzzle break on it and now it is halfway tame to shoot.

Here's another thing, tell him to look up what ammo costs for that gun. Last time I bought a box it was $58.00 for 20 of them. But, that rifle will take down a Rhino. I don't shoot it for hunting in Texas.

The one time a buddy borrowed it to shoot a doe on our hunting lease. It was probably a 175 pound deer. The thing was almost split in half behind the shoulder, it was only hanging on by the backbone. That rifle is big big time overkill for Texas.
