Pistol Cleaning Kit

#1

Post by Shu »

Well I have neglected on cleaning my pistol for some time( don't flame me) so its about time now. Does anyone recommend a good cleaning kit that is not going to break the bank? I also could use something for my shotgun and deer rifle, but more worried about my 1911.

Thanks

When it comes to just price, it is hard to beat Wally World.

If you watch the ads you can pick up a really nice do all kit for about $30.00.
from Academy.
I think the basic kit is less than $10.00. at Wally World.

Good Luck. :tiphat:

I bought all of this at walmart, but I couldnt find the oil or cleaning solvent on their website.

I have some fancy kits. That said, I find it real hard to beat a pick, q tips, a rag, and a barrel snake. Oh and CLP. Nothing these 4 things can't do that the OTIS kits at work can.

I <3 CLP. Great stuff. I've recently been using Gunzilla with great results too!

I have a can of CLP also. word of warning, wear glasses when using it to clean your pistol. I was cleaning mine the other day and ended up with a bunch of CLP in my right eye. Not a pleasant feeling.

I'm partial to using a bore snake. I'm also partial to cleaning my weapon before and after firing it (sorry, couldn't resist). Seriously though, a bore snake after spraying some CLP down the barrel, then Q-tips, a rag, and a pick, and you have all you need. The snake is $20 at Academy, but Wally World has them for $10 if you can find your caliber.

I hate being accused of stating the obvious, but whenever you clean guns, which are notorious "bad chemical magnets", you should always wear gloves and eye protection. I even wear a lightweight mask over my mouth and nose.

I picked up a cheap kit from academy for around 10 bucks then cut up an old t shirt for rags, clean the gun before I go to the range and once I get back.

I agree with CLP, and a bore snake. A brush, shop towels and Remoil are also a must.
