Believe it or not, I have an airosft Glock 18C that I actually have around $400 into. This thing feels and looks real enough to fool just about anyone. It even has the metel serial number plate embedded in the polymer frame. A slip-on Handall grip works well, it fits a Serpa holster prefectly and the mags fit in Glock mag holders as well. I have 2 extended 50-round mags (at $50 each, the mags account for a lot of the cost) and a standard length 25-round mag. In semi-auto, this is a very realistic training piece. While the recoil is not as brisk as the real thing, it's real enough that you actually have to use proper technique to keep your shots on target. In full auto mode (1100 rpm), it's just a huge grin maker. I even have a shoulder stock and folding forward grip for it. (Don't worry, I own no real Glocks, so these accesories are not currently considered evil.) An extended threaded barrel and a "supressor" round out the kit. When I get a chance, I snap a few pics and post them. I know that's a lot of money to spend on a "fake" gun, but it's a bunch of fun and I can shoot it in my back yard or garage without getting arrested (or going deaf).

My son is really into Airsoft, to the extent of participating in a weekend long Airsoft exercise at the Fort Hood MOUT facility last month.

I just asked him. He is not a member of that board, but it was that event he went to. He is a member of the UAL team (http://unitedairsoft.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). In Operation Bulldog, his team were the OpFor and played civilians with guns.

If I lived where I couldn't shoot when I wanted I would get a good airsoft. Just don't neglect your dry fire and range time thinking these toys can replace shooting and training. Those little differences in weight and trigger pull as well as the lack of recoil make a big difference. They are good tools as far as supplements go. Most know that but some may not.

Absolutely not! This is why I try to go to range every week. I already noticed a difference in speed changing mags. Not sure if that counts. LOL.

I have been looking to get a realistic 1911 gas blow back model for back yard training and such. The PSC is looking into adding airsoft events or some approach yet to be determined for airsoft. I am interested in that as well. Not sure which brands in the higher end models. I have seen KJW and WE. I have been looking at the WE Tech X Caspian Arms Full Metal Licensed 5.1 M1911 though pricey it is well reviewed and seems to be a good knock off for the real thing. Anyone tried or used any of the better models and have thoughts? This one operates with green or CO2 magazines. Thanks.

Stick with green gas models. CO2 models tend to break down more frequently and CO2 is more affected by ambient temerature (works really poorly when it's cold out, shoots too hot when it's hot), not to mention CO2 costs more. "Green gas" is actually just propane with some silicon added for lubricant. You can buy an adapter that will allow you to charge your magazines from a standard propane camp stove cylinder, saving you a lot of money. You just need to add a few drops of silicon every 4-5 refills.

Full metal models will be the most realistic feeling. Getting a "licensed" modle will cost you extra just to have tradmarks and names on the gun. You can save money by getting an unlicensed model. My KSC Glock was not licensed, so they had to "obscure" the tradmarks when they shipped it into the US. This means they put black tape over the Glock trademarks, which I peeled off about 3 minutes after buying the gun.

I shoot IDPA with a 9mm Commander, and this Airsoft Commander is close enough and allows me to shoot more often and murder paper inside my garage.

thanks and yes I understand the license part too. Need to figure out which models are the same with out the logos for less money. I shoot IDPA too and want to use it for the times I can't get to the practice matches or range to do live fire practice. More of wanting to practice foot work, barricade and other things that you have to do as well. Places to buy? I have checked a few. Prices seem fairly constant. Brands? KJW or WE etc ?

I have been looking for an XD as well but could not find one so looking to go with a nice 1911. I checked the evike site and that was nice. I will do more looking there for sure. Just now sure the quality difference in some brands except what I read.

I would recommend NOT ordering anything from Evike.

I placed an order with them in the past, and they never shipped it. I called and emailed many times to try and find out what was going on. They never answered the phone, it went to voice mail, and they never answered my emails.

I eventually filed a complaint on them with the BBB, and emailed them informing them of such, including the complaint file number.
Somehow, magically, they called me the next day... I told them that I no longer wanted to order with them, and they said fine, and that they would cancel the order, but they charged my card and shipped the item anyways.

My Card was charged 2 days after I told them on the phone to cancel it. As I _eventually_ did receive the item I ordered (over 35 days after the initial order), I did not dispute the charge, however, I will never order anything from them again, and vowed to inform anyone else who may be considering purchasing from them of my story.

This is just my personal experience, take it as you will.

I've had good luck ordering from Cobra airsoft. They are in HongKong, so the shipping cost may be an issue. But, they have some unique models available.

So I detail stripped my WE 1911 and found more interesting things.
1) It detail stripped very similar to the real thing. Even the safety looks like the real thing. Although made of inferior material but I don't think it goes through the kind of abuse like the real thing.
2) I took the grips off. It came with Pachmyr like grips with the rubber front strap. Underneath it, I discovered the front strap is already checkered. Hmmm, strange.
3) The grip bushing is one piece with the frame so, no worry about it backing out with bushing screws.
4) The trigger assembly is remarkbly similar to the real thing. I wonder if it's interchangeable. lol
5) It does have a hammer strut, main spring housing, and the spring.
6) Hammer is screwed on instead of held on by a pin.

So far so good.
