Springield XD9SC question

#1

Post by capsalot »

I recently bought a Springfield XD9 Subcompact and I had a question for you guys.

I am looking at buying a grip extender and new magazines. I only have two 10 round mags now .

What size mags do I need to buy in order for the grip extender to fit?

Thanks in advance. :txflag: :patriot:

Hmm, I'm confused, as my XD9SC came with 1 x 13 rd mag and 1 x 16 round mag

Mine, from what I understand, was an early, early model. Twas manufactured in 2004.

And to my understanding, They came with 10 round mags back then and no Holster, Mag Holder, or mag loader.

That is why I am confused myself. does the grip extender work on your 16 round mag? or 13?

I believe that you buy the full size XD9 mag, not completely sure though. You might be able to buy mags with the extender already on them, http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/de ... ber=512408

The grip extender is on the flat plated 13rd round magazine

The 16 round mag is already long enough for a full grip

Could it also work on the 10 rd mag? not sure, but if you take your mag to a shop, like the Arms Room or others, where you can buy it, they will also install it, so if it doesn't fit, then you don't worry about it.

I believe the OP is talking about these:

http://springfieldxdstore.com/pgroup_de ... _id%3D3%26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have one for my XD40SC. It came with a 13 round magazine and a 9 (or 10, dont remember) round magazine. I bought the pinky extension, shown in the video, for my 9 rounder, and the magazine extension for my 13 rounder. I also bought another 13 rounder with the extension.

The one in the link fills the gap between the bottom of the grip and the end of the magazine, basically giving the SC a full size grip with a full size magazine. It looks a bit goofy installed though, with the grip being longer than the barrel.

Yes this is exactly what I was speaking of.

I was just unsure of the capacity of the mag I would need in order for the extension to work.
So in my case, because I have a 9mm, I would want to buy 16 round mags with grip extensions, correct?

There are two items being discussed in this thread.

The one in the link above is a sleeve that slips over the full size magazine and serves as a filler to make a full size grip out of the one on the compact gun. It does not "extend" or change the length of the magazine.

The full size magazine can be used in the compact gun without the sleeve, but in that configuration the exposed magazine tube protrudes from the bottom of the grip.

The other by Pearce is a replacement floorplate that does extend the length of the magazine.

It extends the length to fit the pinky, but does not extend the capacity (at least, not on the .40).

You are correct in that the one in the link does not actually extend anything, it only fills the void left when using a full length magazine in a subcompact pistol. The Pearce pinky extension simply allows you to get a full grip on a subcompact with the standard capacity magazine.

Thanks for clarifying that point. I should have explicitly said it extends the overall length of the magazine a bit with the pinky grip without adding round capacity.

Let me throw a bit more confusion into the mix...

An XD40sc mag will fit an XD9sc and it offers more capacity than it's 9 counterpart. I discovered this at the range the other day.

SO...If you see a good deal on 10 round .40 mags and you live in one of "those" states that limits mag capacity, just know you can fit more than 10 9mm rounds in it and it fuctions 100%
