Big man Holsters?
What is the best Holster for a big man to carry comfortable? I don't want to buy several of them to find the right one any thoughts? 6'2 300lbs....
Re: Big man Holsters?
...what are you carrying...and where??? sometimes the first holster we buy is the right one...it's more common, though, to have a holster box after awhile...different ones for different needs...

Re: Big man Holsters?
yes a lot more info needed
Re: Big man Holsters?
It will depend upon what you want to carry and where, but here are the options I've used...and I'm 6'2" and 275. I've used DeSantis (won't go there again),Crossbreed Supertuck (horsehide carrying a 1911 -- but the gun, given my build, was not a comfortable carry though the crossbreed was OK), and most recently a Glock 36 in a Texas Tucker (been carrying it for about a year and am quite content -- best $60 ever spent on a IWB holster).
Now {flame suit on} I do use a Merlin Pack from time to time. Yes, a fanny pack. Until I get motivated to lose the weight, the fanny pack is a great option for when I want to go more casual (walking the mutt with the Mrs. or working in the yeard, etc.).

If find the use of tommy's original fannypack is the most conformable carry method. Yes it is fanny pack, but packs 9mm pistol with laser light and 2x Mags of 30 rds. There is a room for a wallet and a cell phone too. Deployment of the pistol is quick too. Who cares what others says about your out-of-fashion, if it works it works.Pug wrote:It will depend upon what you want to carry and where, but here are the options I've used...and I'm 6'2" and 275. The other method would be OWB Black Hawk Serpa, works great for OC at the range, or under a jacket in the winter.

Re: Big man Holsters?
I would say it would probably depend on what you want to carry. A snubbie will fit nicely in a pocket holster in a loose fitting pair of pants. A 1911 will carry nicely in an iwb in a quality rig, for most folks.
Whatever you do, don't try to go to cheap on it. You generally get what you pay for to some degree in holsters. A good custom leather rig will go a long way.
Search lightning sports arms and give them a call, tell them what you need and let them give you an idea of something that might work. Good folks.

Re: Big man Holsters?
Bigger guys seem to do well with the snubbies in the front pocket, as stated before. I think a Crossbreed-style holster is a great fit for almost anyone. I carry with a Galco King Tuk, and it works great. I've gotten similar feedback from some of my larger friends. I second the don't go cheap comment, I wasted far too much money on cheap holsters when I first started. Go to Cabela's and test fit some with one of their display guns...they're very helpful about that.

Sorry guys, I just got back on here. I'm wanting to carry my Sig 1911 RCS ....
Re: Big man Holsters?
When I carry 1911's style I go with the Crossbreed Supertuck... it works great for me (I'm 6'0'' 250).

I am 5'11 265. I am lots more shoulders than I do waist. I find IWB works best for me with a good belt. I have Crossbreed Supertuck and Crossbreed belt. Not the cheapest, but I am happy. BTW I carry a full sized Glock.

Re: Big man Holsters?
I am not a big guy but I have carried IWB and OWB. I have found OWB is by far the most comfortable way to carry.
Currently I carry my Springer 5" 1911 in a GALCO COMBAT MASTER. It is a great holster
. Good retention (I have had to run around with the kids at the playground and it didn't move), good concealability (I usually just throw on a t-shirt and I'm on my way), the draw is very fast and smooth, and you can re-holster your gun one handed with no problem.
With that being said I was looking at the Galco site for a new mag carrier and came across the GACLO CONCEALABLE BELT HOLSTER. The design intrigued me so I did some research on it. I have yet to find one bad review on the Concealable Belt Holster. It is the same type of holster as the one I have now (pancake) except for the molding. So, I just purchased one and will have it waiting on me for when I get home
Like I said I love my Combat Master and everything about it but the design on the Concealable Belt Holster looks as though it will allow the gun to ride closer to the body and be even more concealable. If you click on the image below you will see the difference in these two holsters.
A = Concealable Belt Holster
B = Combat Master Hoslter

Re: Big man Holsters?
I can only report on what works for me. I'm both taller and bigger than you and was certain I'd never find a tolerable rig. Maybe I'm exaggerating just a little, but I feel like I could have bought a new Ed Brown Classic Custom with all the money I spent on handmade holsters, mag carriers, belts, etc. They all looked great and were comfortable at the start of the day, but became much less so after a few hours moving around or when behind a wheel. By lunchtime something would be digging into my ample side or shifted to a less concealable position. Undressed, you could see the dents they'd made in my physique...not that you'd want to.
Finally I got to my current set up, which is so comfortable I can plop into my La-Z-Boy at the end of the day and take a nice long nap before I even think to take it off. I carry a 5" or 4" 1911 in a horsehide Crossbreed Supertuck on the heaviest tapered bullhide gunbelt by Texas LeatherCraft you ever saw. I think both elements are equally important, and I have on occasion added a double IWB mag carrier and an S&W J-frame to the combination with the whole shebang still being better than tolerable, albeit a bit heavy. I'm 100% satisfied and am thinking about opening a bigman's used leather goods shop.

I'm 5'11" and 260. My most comfortable IWB carry ( I carry OWB with a Fobus belt holster and a jacket during cool months) is a Cross breed supertuck. It does not have the combat cut, and I wear one size too large on my pants. I love it. I carry a Glock 30 in it.
