Re: Introduce yourself
Been in Austin about 6 years, new to this site. Had a carry permit in VA (along with a non-resident NH), but haven't yet got my TX CHL. It's now high on my list of things to do, but might have to wait until I find work again (I've been completing my graduate degree, so have a lot of debts). I'm also on a number of other forums, but mainly only read TFL and THR these days.
BTW, I'm curious about one thing about this forum: most versions of phpBB have a "Mark all posts read" button, but I can't find one here.
Anyway, pleasedtameetcha.

Welcome, dev_null! Glad you joined us!
On the board index page, in the upper right side, just below the date/time of your last visit (assuming you are logged into the site at that point), you'll see "Mark forums read". This should be what you are looking for.

Aha! Thanks, 10x, right in front of me all the time. I'm told that's something to do with having that XY chromosome.

Hello I'm new...
27 yo white male
North Texas (DFW metroplex)
Police officer, specialized as crime scene technician, field training officer and supervisory corporal
Prior to Leo I was CHL for 3 years, still carry the card for impromptu gun buying
I love and own both glock and 1911, .45 and 9mm; I am from the school of "get both, train both" - life is too short for just one gun or caliber. I am also always happy to offer any LEO advice if someone might have questions on any range of topics, always feel free to shoot me a MSG and I'll try to get back ASAP.
Edit: carry weapon .38 special +p smith Wesson hammerless w/ 1 3/8 barrel
On-duty glock 17 gen4 w/ stream light tlr2 in safari land hooded holster

Welcome, speakEasy! Glad you could join us. I understand "life is too short for just one gun or caliber". You're likely to run into at least one or two other folks here that agree as well.
Re: Introduce yourself
Hi Everyone,
51 yr w/m, Texoma area.
EDC is a S&W 642, no lock, factory CT grips, carried in front pocket, (I'm a leftie, Mika holster on order). Took going through a Sig 250C, Glock 26, and BG 380 to find the 642. I like all those other guns, but can't carry them too well. At 5'7", 185, I have a pear shape that pushes IWB/OWB out too far, and/or are uncomfortable for more than a few hours. Working on the waistline, but for now, pocket carry works best for me. I'm pretty much a mechanical klutz, which is another factor that pushed me towards a revolver (though I qualified for CHL with my Sig250).
I'm not a "gun person" as such, meaning I don't know all that much about them in general. But I did grow up around them, shooting .22 rifles from 5 or 6 years old, and .357, .44 and so on as soon as I could handle them. Luckily my family always focused on safety and respect while shooting, so I grew up around that too. I did however once see a cousin's kid (he was about 11 or 12 at the time) shoot a hole through his big toe with a .44 mag.
I finally took action on getting my CHL last September / October. Will post more about that in the "waiting room".
I've read this forum since September, and I'm very happy to be a member here now. It looks to be a really friendly forum. And I don't say that lightly - as a web developer I visit or belong to a lot of forums, and too many of them get out of control too often!

Re: Introduce yourself
I just registered for the forum so I thought I'd say hi. I am new to guns and shooting and just got my CHL in last week so I have lots of questions and can't wait to make my way through the posts. I'm a 50 year old female from north of the Dallas area, married for 25 years and I don't work outside the house. I took up shooting for protection and for a hobby and so far I'm loving it!
