What did you think about the LONG front to rear grip, skinny width, and short length?
Did the gun tend to cut into your hand with recoil?

I really want to shoot one... and know better then to buy one just to try it out... but Im loosing my willpower to resist :evil2:

I really like the xd line. Super high quality reliable firearms. However, there is something about the limited capacity that I feel would give me the willies. Going to have to stick to my M&P 40c for now.

Balance seemed ok, it points well... and it's single stack thin, but the grip is....LONG? front to rear.. they seemed to not have changed the grip at all, except made it thinner for the single stack. It is a weird feel... and not one Im sold on.... my XD compact and Sub are safe in the line up for today.. I'll sleep on it and have a feel again tomorrow.
So does this pistol have the exchangeable back strap inserts?

See if you can find a Walther PPS the next time you're fondling an XDs in the toy store - they should feel almost exactly the same, since the two guns are almost exactly the same size as each other. I quickly found that the "long" front-to-rear grip was very manageable on my PPS, even better with a Limbsaver on it - prevents the hand from wrapping around itself if they downsized the grip.

According to the manual... yes it does

AndyC wrote:I didn't really mind the short grip - I'd shot an XDS a few months ago at an industry event and I remember feeling surprised that it didn't bother me at all. The thump into the hand was reminiscent of a (non +P load) all-steel .357 mag snubbie; authoritative without being unpleasant at all. It didn't bite me in the slightest and the grip-length front-to-back felt just fine - I guess it's a subjective thing :tiphat:
Andy thanks for the insight.

Im thinking Im just going to have to buy it and find out after a few hundred rounds.

Wife has her CHL class this sat.. and I was asked to keep her company...As there is an indoor range, I could pop out at break time and get some range time before or after the class does it's shooting.

I will have to go to my least favorite gun store to do that, but I'll stop by today and see if they have an XDs.. As snobbish as they are, not likely.

I had one in my hands last weekend, it felt good. Decided to sleep on it, it got sold now I can't find one in Houston. I'm going to the GRB gun show tomorrow, hopefully I can find one, if not I'm on the wait list at a shop on the noth side, unfortuneatly I live on the SW side. If anyone knows of one/has seen one in Houston, I'd like to know where to go. I've tried Collectors, Carters, Tactical in Katy... no dice and no one seems to know when they will have one

I don't know about the XDs, but I just handled a new XDM45 Compact this afternoon, and I have a new case of gun lust. Now I've got to figure out what I'm willing to sell. :grumble

Yup it is nice, have one.. the grip size is the same as my XD compact .45, but the XDm has a shorter overall length, and especially the .2 shorter barrel.

What I want in the XDs small over all and the slimmer grip, only something your going to get in a single stack gun.

I toyed with a Springfield Micro Compact 45 today......if my rifle sells, Im going for the Micro, if not, I'll save a bit until the XD's is available form my preferred store, and then choose..

If I didn't already have a gun in this category that I like a lot, I'd be a lot more interested in the XDs than I am. The gun I carry most frequently is a Kahr CW45, which is almost in the same class as the XDs, being a touch smaller than my 3" Kimber which it has gradually replaced in my carry rotation. For that reason, I came to the conclusion just this morning to put my Kimber up for sale to fund the Springfield XDm45 purchase.

I love that Kimber, but I've got two 1911s, that one and a 5" Springfield, and if I'm going to reduce my 1911 inventory to one gun, I'll keep the 5" model. And as much as I love the 1911 platform, my personal carry preferences have been moving toward the simpler, and so polymer framed guns with simple point and shoot fire control systems have become more practical to me for daily carry.....hence my Kahr PM9 and CW45 and S&W M&P45 purchases over the past 3 or 3 years. Heck, I've even carried my wife's Glock occasionally!

If I didn't already own the CW45, I would definitely take a hard look at the XDs.

Ok... It's been almost a month since the first reports of the XDs is selling. The more I study it, the more I like it. The problem is... I still do not see them anywhere. Has anyone bought one? Are you seeing them them anywhere yet?... Help...

The only shop in my area that had them is the Army PX on hood, they got a 1st shipment of two, and a second shipment of 1.

No one else seems to have them here or know when they will.
