Harris County Sheriff's deputies late Monday were searching for the assailants responsible for a drive-by shooting in Spring that sent two people to the hospital.

A woman driving a car and a male passenger, both 25, were struck about 7:15 p.m. as they pulled out of a Wal-Mart parking lot at 155 Louetta Crossing near the North Freeway.

The suspects were in a tan or gold-colored sedan that pulled up next to the victims and began shooting, detectives said.

"The motive for this is unknown. It's under investigation," said Sgt. James Parker, with the Harris County Sheriff's Department.

The suspects then fled the scene.

Deputies said two other people, including the two year old child of the wounded driver, were in the car when the gunfire erupted.

"Fortunately, neither one of them was injured," Parker said.

Investigators also are searching for a family member of one of the victims who later came to the scene. He fled when deputies tried to question him.

"I was told he did have a weapon," Parker said. However, "at this point it does not appear that he had anything to do with the shooting."

The driver was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital while the wounded passenger went to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital. Their conditions were unknown late Monday.

"We're not aware of any other people at this location who have been injured," Parker said.

This is right down the road from where I live. I go to that Wal-mart frequently. Hopefully there is more the story, as usually is, and the victims knew the suspects, and it wasn't a random event.

This is the Wal-Mart that my wife usually shops at. She started only going in the morning after she had a guy pull off the freeway and jump out asking for money for gas. That shocked her enough to start being much more vigilant. After this, she has decided I will always be going with her. This one hit to close to home. Not much you can do in a situation like this but duck and cover.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to take a 1 week vacation at Thunder Ranch. She has been wanting to take a defensive course the next time one becomes available locally.

Amazing amount of criminal activity involving home invasions and drive-by shootings going around these days...

Wonder what the cause is for the increase...

Its our lack of gun control laws that is arming the criminals. We should try and restrict the availability of these guns.

If you can't make it to Thunder Ranch and are looking for something a little closer to home you may be interested in http://www.combatshootingandtactics.com
The instructor is Paul Howe.
If that name doesn't ring any bells, you need to read "BLACKHAWK DOWN" and that will give you all the info you need on Mr. Howe.
Hope this helps.

Thank CaptDave,

I have family just down the road. I am interested in taking the Advanced Concealed or Tac. Pistol course. Have you taken any of his classes?

I think my wife will be going the "Personal Protection for Women" class at Thunder Gun Range this month. http://www.thundergunrange.com/

It is hard for us both to get to the range together and I think learning from someone else will be better anyway.

Geee, why don't we just make drive-by-shootings illegal ?
Certainly *THAT* would solve the problem !
