If they are willing to openly violate CL's terms of service, I would suspect a set-up or an idiot. I wouldn't buy nor sell a gun on that site. Armslist, TX gun trader, gunbroker and of course this great site are safer than craigs.

Or both.

Yeah I was... Hey I'm all for public gun transfer but NOT without a CHL etc... And yes, I was under the impression it was against their TOS. I didn't have time to look it up after I saw the post. I got busy ... But I wouldn't buy or sell or "trade/barter" from CL it just seemed fishy and my spidey sense got all tingly.

As an aside... There was someone ranting and freaking out saying they were taking down IP addresses and emails and were sending them to the FBI for personal transfer of firearms without a Federal Check...

And a few replies bashing them for it ...

I need to speak out on that one.

Everyone has the right to buy and sell guns unless they are a prohibited person (felon, etc.). I do not agree that someone must jump through the licensing hoops to be able to exercise their God-given Constitutional right to buy, sell, and possess arms.

The position you stated does not help restore firearms rights. It is one thing for a person to express they'd rather sell to a licensee, but being against all non-licensee transfers is objectionable.

Mr. frog... Objectionable to you or not...Let me reiterate...I never said I was against it or I felt someone should jump through a hoop to purchase a firearm from a private party... I simply stated that I (me personally) don't feel comfortable doing it without having at least some type of personal knowledge that the person I am selling to has the legal right to own a firearm. The best way for ME to at least have some peace of mind is to request a CHL ... This is not to say I have not bought person 2 person but, that is on them to feel secure that I'm not a felon. My being careful does nothing to restore or erode firearms rights... That, is the position and duty of the appointees we vote into office. It is our responsibility to make every attempt to know that the candidates we are backing have the mindset to protect and not allow a reduction if our 2nd amendment or access to ownership. So, if you have another way for me to know or have a reasonable knowledge that the person I am selling to is not a felon etc... I'm all ears. :tiphat:

I have bought, sold, and traded many things on CL to include, reloading and related gun stuff, cars, furniture. Every interaction has been pleasant to the point that some still email me with questions and vise verse. I do carry to all my transactions just in case, and it does not hurt to have someone else there with you, and meet in a public place. I say buy away and also BUYER BEWARE. :patriot:

P.S. IF you read the actual rules there is none on buying, trading, or selling guns. Only that they say obey local laws and they prefer you not. Remember, CL is based out of San Francisco(The most liberal part of The Peoples Republic of California. I would know I was born, raised, and lived in SOCAL for 23 years). ;-)

I pass up a lot of gun buys because all their must have CHL or must sign Bill of Sale, etc. . . I personally do not want someone else to have my information. So they can keep their firearm and find a sucker somewhere else.

Sold numerous guns on CL; usually advertise the sale as "gun case for Glock 19 9mm, e-mail with questions" for instance. I'd say 95% of the e-mails are inquiring if I still had what came in the case. All the sales have always taken place in either a police station or fire station parking lot, cleared ahead of time with the buyer, as well as requiring a copy of DL/CHL for my records. CL buyers seem to be a little more willing to pay asking price vs. other sites, whether its because they're not hardcore "gun guys" or otherwise I'm not sure. Although, you still get the "hey I know you're asking $450, but best I can do is $200" e-mail occasionally.

As far as variables, yes there are more than say selling to a member of this or other gun forum, but not so much so that I've ever questioned it. Both CL and gun forums allow both sides a level of anonymity so I tend to lump them into the same group.
Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view.
