Long Center for Performing Arts Austin 30.06

#1

Post by Matt78665 »

Forgive me if I am not the first to post about this. We attend the free concerts on Sunday often at he Long Center for Performing Arts in Austin. As you go up the stairs to the outdoor patio, there is a 30.06 sign made out of metal with very little contrast between the lettering and the back ground. I am not an expert on signage, but it looked legit in wording, letter size and was in English and Spanish. I returned to the car and disarmed. Does the lettering and background have to be of certain colors? The sign did not stick out at all. I almost walked right by it.

According to http://www.Texas3006.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, someone else posted this location in 2009, commenting about "metal", and they stated it is a valid sign.
So when not seeing it personally, someone previously thought it was legally enforceable.

As far as the colors, it is supposed to be "Contrasting Colors"

Did a quick search on this and it appears that the City of Austin owned the predecessor to the Long Center. Does anybody know if they still have ownership?

I am told The Long Center is run by an endowment of some sort and is now privately owned. I have not confirmed this however. I would not say the colors on the 30.06 sign are contrasting, but not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Here is the quote for the Long Center website:

"In November 1998, the citizens of Austin voted to approve the City’s lease of the Lester E. Palmer Auditorium to the nonprofit group Arts Center Stage for renovation into a community performing arts venue. In April 1999, Arts Center Stage received its lead gift of $20 million from Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long, and the Arts Center Stage project was renamed the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Center"

Good research.......city owned but leased private.....then is 30.06 applicable?

Sorry to dig up old posts, but we went there yesterday and I didn't see any signs. I may have missed them?

I can't afford to be the test case to prove it's always safe not to carry somewhere.
