Plano Bullet Trap - off range - lectured about not securing

I'm not very sure this is nothing more that a range rule or personal preference...

If I am not mistaken, I believe over the last year that we had a news report of a couple of guys up in Big D that were followed home from the range by a couple of BeeGees and were robbed, even though they were armed, but not loaded up...

They just thought nothing would happen between the range and the house...

In all respect to the range(s) I go to, I am kinda torn between loading back up and holstering while in a range environment, because everybody "knows" you got one, and waiting till your outside, out in public possibly and violating the concealed part of Concealed Handgun License...

We're not stupid, nor are we inhierently unsafe...We do the best we can to comply with the law...And not putting safety aside AT ALL...Does it not make sense to reload in a place where we are not worried or distracted by doing something that we need to be well balanced, in control of the objects we are handling???

As long as the gun is pointed downrange...I cannot for the life of me understand why some places don't make a big deal out of it, yet others read you the riot act...

Sorry if I appear to be ranting on this, but the more I think about it...Well...I think I'll just step back and blow this issue off...

Nope. I've reholstered behind the line there before, but never asked. If they have a problem with reholstering behind the line (with CHL) then I'll take my business elsewhere, is all I was saying.

Please reconsider. It is common and proper SAFETY to NOT handle weapons behind the line. I don't want someone handling a weapon behind me while I am on the line shooting. If I get shot, I don't want it to be in the back at the range.

That is the key. If you are going to load up and holster for carry outside of the range, do it ON the line, not behind it.

My two cents....

My carry does not leave my side (unless God forbids) and I like to shoot my regular carry everytime I am at the range. What I do is I carry someting else so I don't have to load and holster while in the range. I shoot at TARGET MASTER for over a year now on a regular basis and have asked the owners/range master about that issue. For safety reasons they discourage the practice but admits they can't enforce it all the time.Personally, I agree but that's just me and I will not say anything nor feel offended if the person on the next lane to me loaded and holstered as long as he/she is facing downrange and no trigger finger on the trigger, please!!For me loading and holstering is almost like changing undearwear done in private ... Again that's just me!

I pulled out the gun I was carrying at the BT Saturday when I went.
I was "on the line," looked behind me, made sure no one was up in mah space. I also kept the muzzle down until unloaded, and then down range when loaded.

when I left, I reloaded, turned so my hip was pointing downrange (maybe overkill, but I don't care), and reholstered, and then I broke out.

you coulda reholstered in the bathroom. it's a single shooter, and you can lock the door.

the problem with reloading in the car is the trip TO the car.

and it's not exactly a "bad" part of Plano, it's the principality.

I think the BIG lesson for me (thank you pbandjelly for pointing this out) is that I should have re-armed out of view.

I think it's only the last year or so that 'hot' carry firearms were allowed at PSC.

I always clear and reload in my truck.

I have a small car, and out of habit I always put my workbag and rangebox in the trunk out of site - it never occured to me to put my range box in the seat next to me.

What is the big deal with loading and holstering your weapon at the gun range? Don't those of you who have CHLs ALWAYS carry your guns? What is different at the range? I am just a little unsure at why this is such a big deal. And for those of you who support this "sanction"...why? What is so different than YOU carrying your weapon on a daily basis, or hanging out with people who carry their weapon? What is the risk involved at the range?? I am totally baffled on this one...

It was not clear at the beginning of this thread if he loaded his gun ON the line or behind the line. If he had loaded it behind the line; IOW, behind other shooters, it was not a good idea and he should have been counseled.

Now we know that he loaded the gun and holstered the gun ON the line, and I don't believe anyone here has a problem with that.

If the range prohibits it, then he will either have to comply with their rules or shoot elsewhere; regardless of what we think about it.
