Thought I'd start a thread to call out the frenzy price gougers and opportunists.

Everyone I'm sure by now has heard of CTD's $60 PMAGS and other customer unfriendly practices.

But the used market is also feeding the insanity:

seen another guy listing magpul's for 30 each on there -- says he has 25 -- guess at least he only double normal price instead of triple it -- lol

CTD wants $50 for ruger bx25 mags. Usually sell for $25.

who is the stupid one? The person selling or the person buying? Price is driven by demand and what somebody is willing to pay.

Your post must have pinged his conscience. The price has been reduced to $3,750.00 for that $1,000.00 rifle. Either that, or he sold the $250 worth of ammo separately and changed the price to reflect that change.

I received an order from "Keep shooting dot com" the day after the school shooting. The 8.95 mags are now 14.95 . 67% increase. All Name brand mags look to be sold out. I would call that taking advantage of the situation. But, at 14.95 they are available...

free market economy. can charge whatever they want so long as there is a demand for it.

it doesn't really hurt long time gun owners as you probably already have everything you can't stand to live without. This hike is punishing the people who are wannabe economic masterminds. Obama 2008 woke me up to first gun purchase. Obama 2012 should have woken any lingers of doubt. the people caught up in the buying storm now are not awake to the dangers of the world. want one because they thnk they cant have one anymore. Thier core motivation is jealousy. they will buy a rifle without knowing the first 4 safety rules but it wont matter anyway because that weapon will rust away in a closet or dafty attic

Yeah, I kinda missed the window on this one... It's all too much now. I'm hoping prices will drop back down to something in the same ballpark as reasonable so I can afford to stock up a but more, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's true there's a free market economy, and that some dealers are raising prices. I find it somewhat annoying, and from my perspective, it's a solid indicator of how the seller regards his buyers - either as simple "cash transaction units" or "clients." I prefer to be in the latter, which probably explains why I've sold through every last lower I had in the last week. Sure, I could have jacked prices, made money, and bought somebody a few more presents at Christmas, but at what cost to my business? I know _thousands_ of people who will never visit Cheaper Than Dirt again because of their recent actions, possibly enough to destroy CTD as a viable company in the future. I never want to be that kind of company, because true customers have long memories, and I like having happy customers.

So, here I am with a bare "cupboard" (ok, I have a DB9 and a SIG 1911 left), but I know my customers (many of them are readers here) are patient for me to get more lowers. I expect to get them in a couple of weeks, and even though I paid extra on my end for a "rush shipment", I will STILL sell them for the same price as always.

If I think there is a real "unusual demand" for an item, I do what most small sellers do and place it for auction at a fair starting price. Even if I have one bidder, I make a reasonable profit, but if hundreds compete for that single item and want to pay more, I'm fine with that. No gouging involved.

Gouging only applies to commodities, this is simple supply and demand. Let the invisible hand do it's thing.

I firmly support the freedom to buy and sell property in a free market.

Sure, there are people with more money than sense willing to pay a stupid amount to purchase that which they could have had far easier and economically just a short time ago. God Bless 'em. They have the freedom to choose how they want to spend their money. Similarly, there are people assessing things, deciding they view the probability of a ban differently, and are willing to satisfy the market demand at current prices. God Bless them too and I am glad they have the liberty to choose.

There is no superior alternative to free markets.

Especially when you look at auction sites like eBay or Gunbroker where the buyer truly sets the market price. Pmags on "no reserve" auctions are being bought for $50 each. If I had bought a case of Pmags you can bet I would be having a Merry Christmas.
