Law enforcement gun & ammo shortage
The panic buying of guns and ammo has started affecting law enforcement agencies. They're facing long wait lists (6-12 months) and smaller departments are having to cut back on training and even annual qualifications are in danger.

Yup. I wanted a box of approved duty ammo from GT's for the Glock 17 I purchased and they didn't have it....

That still chaps me. I wonder how long it takes to make 1.6 billion rounds. I wonder if they bought it from one manufacturer or several.suthdj wrote:DHS bought like 1.6 billion rounds maybe they can give some up.

I asked my FIL about this and he indicated that at the police supply stores they are usually out right now but that his department buys their ammo a years worth at a time and they already bought the next year's supply so they don't have any issues with qualifications and duty ammo.

Alvin Walmart had 300 rounds of 9mm FMJ this morning but I bought it all. I apologize.

I have seen various brands of 9mm, and even bought a box of Speer duty ammo when I was at GT's, however our policy requires the Federal LE ammo.. gotta stay within policy. I am still carrying my glock 40, just want the option.

Shoot. Don't apologize. Brag! I'd have done the same thing if I had seen it.danpaw wrote:Alvin Walmart had 300 rounds of 9mm FMJ this morning but I bought it all. I apologize.

Re: Law enforcement gun & ammo shortage
Yeah, don't worry about it. With only three boxes left I would have figured someone was nice enough to leave them for someone else and only took three others for themselves. I would have bought the last three boxes if there were any an my WalMart earlier tonight.RottenApple wrote:Shoot. Don't apologize. Brag! It was a 50 round box of WWB and a 250 round box of UMC. I had already bought the 50s for someone else and then came back and bought the 250 for myself. I'm not somebody that usually hogs ammo, that's why we can't find any lately.

I wouldn't consider 300 rounds "hogging".danpaw wrote:It was a 50 round box of WWB and a 250 round box of UMC. I had already bought the 50s for someone else and then came back and bought the 250 for myself. I'm not somebody that usually hogs ammo, that's why we can't find any lately.
Re: Law enforcement gun & ammo shortage
Talked to a local LEO recently. He was telling me how he placed a RRA .308 on order and was expecting it in about 6 weeks. Through his Dept, of course. Also while I was chatting with him, another officer came in and dolled out two boxes of 9mm GDHP's (the big 50 rounder boxes) and a Couple of boxes of 00. He did voice his displeasure that no .223 was available. It was interesting because they don't even have 9mm's as their daily carries. I joked with him and said "sharing is caring!".
This is a small dept, too. Not sure what kind of a budget they have FWIW.
