OK, looking at my bag o' empties, I have shot a fair amount of the HXP in my M1, and didn't have any issues. Granted, I have only had it out twice, but it is the stuff the CMP is selling.

Empties, left to right: HXP 76 (wasn't going to dig around looking for a 77, have a fair spread of years), Federal AE M1 safe, Remington 180 grn. Core-Lokt PSP (shot from my Savage, NOT my M1. Just saved the brass.)

Here is a recent thread from the CMP Garand Forum about the HXP ammo. Seems there are no issues that I can see:

He did state it will not fit in his Garand properly...
It fits in mine just fine, but when I load the en blocs, sometimes the rounds want to pop forward ever so slightly. I'll have to take one or two out to make sure they are all the way back. Something I will probably get the hang of with time.

I originally had 1200 rounds of the Greek from CMP in the en bloc clips and have shot it in several M-1s and several brand receivers and barrels and never a hickup. I just reloaded some of this brass and no problems either. You usually don't have problems with Garand ammo if you stick with M-2 ball specs. It is not the cleanest shooting stuff, but it was reasonably priced and already in M-1 clips. Talking about a fun day at the range!!!!!!

I bought a bunch of HXP from a dealer at a gun show, it was a better price than CMP was offering at the time. Five boxes of 30.06 in en bloc clips, 960 rounds total at less than $0.50 per round. CMP was offering a similar price, plus shipping at the time.

The following week in an IDPA three gun match, I found that at least two rounds out of each clip did not fire, and those that did gave me extraction problems, and some did not feed well either.

The next gun show I brought the ammo back to the dealer and showed him the rounds that failed to fire as well as the ones that did not feed and ejected rounds. He took the ammo back and gave me all my money back.

After that I ordered the same amount from CMP and have never had a function problem with it.

It wasn't until later that I discovered that what I bought at the gun show and what I got from CMP were both HXP.

I suspect that the ammo from the gun show actually had been stored improperly.

A guy I work with bought a beauty of an M1 Grande several months ago, then went on the hunt for some bulk ammo to shoot and finally gets a deal on 400 rounds of 150 grain 30.06. Well, he gets his order and the bullets are just a tad too long! My google fu says they are a Greek variant with some mixed reviews.

The casing even looks slightly different and has the markings of H X P 77.

Any idea what this is and what it is for? He wants to send it back but I guess the place he ordered from says it is 30.06 and all sales are final.

Any ideas?
