Gun owner - landlord discrimination ?

I am on the hunt, so if any of you know of a place, don't hesitate to drop me a line. I can use all the help I can find right now. Any recommendations for a person/company that locates lease property would also be helpful.

Check in at your local real estate office. Many realtors have rentals they manage.

Put out flyers in the worst part of town you can think of. Tell all the crackheads, gang bangers and prostitutes that this guy has an apartment available and there are no guns there.

In fact, call the local news station and see if they'll be fair enough to do a report on this self-righteous creep. See how he likes the publicity and put to the test how his policy keeps criminals away

A few of those are really close to me...as in a few hundred feet! Crazy what folks are getting for rental property these days.

I can't rent an apartment, I absolutely must have a 3/2/2 house. I have a office (for when I get a day to work at home) a master and a guest bedroom for my father who visits every couple of months.

I don't know if my current landlord will provide a reference or not. I hope he will, but, given his mind set, who knows.

Can anyone suggest areas to stay away from outside of 635/LBJ ? I don't know the rest of the DFW area as well as I would like and have zero knowledge of some parts and it would be most helpful to decide which areas to concentrate on or consider as an alternate given my time constraints.

I don't know what your budget looks like, but Grapevine is a real pleasant town to live in, and the local freeway construction is getting near completion so traffic is going to ease up quite a bit in the near future.

If you see a home you think you may really like, take a moment to see if the neighbors on either side know of any problems with the place or the area. You may get a tipoff that the landlord has been unpopular with previous tenants or other helpful info. I dodged a couple of bad apples that way before.

Also to see what crime in a given area is like; I recently downloaded an application for my phone that would help me know where a friend is who has a medical condition if we can't reach her. It tracks her phone. It's called Life360 in the android app store. I noticed the really nice thing is when you enlarge the map down to closer detail, it shows all of the crime reports for each area in the past year and all of the registered sex offenders. I was amazed to see the crime in what I thought was my uneventful area. It even showed the fraud report my husband made to the police several months ago when someone used his credit card. It might be worth downloading it just to check out particular addresses for immediate crime in the area. There will always be the garden variety, but regular violent crime or home burglaries would be good to know about.

george is smart! anyways, i used to work for these asian landlords who own most of the rented houses around 190 and tollway. they don't care about guns, they only care about one thing... MONEY! Pay your rent, be a good neighbor and they won't care if you even have a howitzer in your house. biz owners who try to make dough are smart. biz owners who throw politics into their biz are the real morons!

If you are paying that for rent, why not buy a home? May get out a little cheaper, it would be yours, and mo one could tell you that you cant have guns (except maybe your wife )

I'll echo what TAM said about Grapevine, it is a VERY pleasant place to live (work and play too!)! The house on Dublin (in the link) is in a good neighborhood, it's right across the road from me.

Also - for the price of renting, you may want to look at buying, your $$$ though, I understand that some folks like flexibility with their habitat.

A little advice. When you do actually move take the guns, ammo, and other small valuables with you in your own vehicle. Don't let the "Movers" even see or handle them. If you are a golfer take your clubs with you too.

This. My grandma hired movers. She later figured out they had stolen several things...a very expensive guitar. ..jewelry. ..and other valuables.

Also as mentioned take detailed pic/vid and do it again when the land lord does the final walk through and have him sign off on it.

If you're a good tenant with a bad landlord, the best revenge is to leave on good terms without unnecessary delays. The same is true if you're a good employee with a bad manager.

I like this one!

As a current landlord of two homes - the worst thing you could do to him is go peacefully and not give him another dime. The majority of renters are NOT as easy on homes as it sounds like you have been, and it is quite likely he will have a worse tenant the next time around.

With that said this one will probably hurt him more and you walk away looking like the good guy.
