Shooting across the street

#1

Post by JRG »

Well, it happened this morning. A thug robbed the Whataburger behind my school and then proceeded to the donut shop across the street and robbed it also. He shot and killed one of the donut workers because I guess he didn't move fast enough. He stole a car and drove to Dallas with Mesquite police and Dallas PD in hot pursuit. They got in a shootout and one DPD officer was injured but the perp was shot and killed.

There are others on our faculty that are CHL'ers with me and we all agreed that this is hitting really close to home. We felt real uncomfortable all day with shots fired right across the street and no way to protect ourselves other than locking the door.

As I posted in a topic earlier in the week about looking for a small revolver, today's activities have really brought it home to me to be prepared at all times. I have a really nice Kershaw Blur knife with me at all times in school. I'm going to keep the revolver in my truck while at school and ON MY PERSON at all other times.

You just never know when some idiot is going to go wacko and start shooting.

Sorry for the long post, but I am still shook up about it.

Joe

I sure don't blame you for being shook up. I carry a .45 and have considered putting a rifle behind the seat of my truck. Just a glance at the wrong end of an AR, M-14, or '27 Thompson should get a bad guy's undivided attention. Of course, I'm on my Harley more often which negates that idea!

How about a Bushmaster (or other AR) pistol? Just carry it concealed, maybe in a bag.

First, because I already carry a pistol. Second, because it would not have the mind grabbing mental impact that a rifle has.

I can see where you would be shaken up.

Several of at my school have pistols in vehicles, but the parking lot is quite a trek from any of the buildings.

It really irritates me that there are gun-free zones.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

Not only is our school a gun free zone, but the administration doesn't even think we need an SRO (school resource officer). That really burns me!! I'm thinking about sending an email to the higher ups about it. Probably won't do any good and might get me fired though.
