YES, it is the SR 22

I'm just concerned why its happening to me, and not hubby. He does shoot his rounds much faster than I do. Maybe the ammo didn't like slower shooting. Lol. I am totally out of my area of expertise! Ask me why your cake didn't rise or your cookies didn't come out right, and I'm all over it.

Hubby stood right next to me watching every move I made. Ugh! He thought my thumb was pushing the mag. Release, but it doesn't quite reach it. Maybe something to do with re-assembly after cleaning?

Check out this post from a Ruger forum. It addresses several issues that have been encountered by others.

If this doesn't help and you can't resolve it yourself, it's time to call Ruger. They stand behind their products and I'm quite sure they can either help you find the cause or they'll have you send it back for a factory fix.

I'm just concerned why its happening to me, and not hubby.

You mentioned it happened to him 2X, but to you a few times per magazine.
So it has happened to him, even if only twice.
Which leads me to believe its the ammo.

Also, if he shoots more than you, you could be 'helping' the stove piping by flinching as you pull the trigger, so the ammo and the flinching combined are causing your issue more than his.

Using your same ammo you could do 2 things:

1 - you may try making sure the feed ramp is VERY clean before shooting and clean it every 2-3 magazines (I keep Qtips and Hoppe's in my range bag to do this myself)
2 - put your ammo in a Rubbermaid type (disposable) container. Spray it ever so lightly with Rem Oil, and it could also release some friction when loading and ejecting the rounds/casings.

But if you want to see if it is an ammo issue, buy some CCI ammo, go to the range with both CCI and your current ammo.
Shoot a mag or 2 with old ammo, and then with CCI
if you are having issues with the old ammo and not the CCI, well, there is your answer.
Then try the #1 and #2 above, with the old ammo and see if that resolves the issues.
If it does resolve it, then you can keep using cheap ammo with it.

We bought this gun for me because of all the high praise and ease of ammo use, I hope it's something simple to repair. We will check out your suggestions.

According to the OP, she was using CCI ammo. I use bulk pack ammo and both of the SR22s my sons shoot have preformed flawlessly.
Given the shortage of .22 ammo on the shelves, I wonder if she got hold of subsonic ammo. Many .22 semis don't like the subsonic stuff.

Hubby checked the gun over while cleaning and sees nothing wrong.

I'm not sure about limp wrist. I shot my .32 on the same day with about 25 rounds and not one jam.
Hubby was so confused as to why it was happening, he stood by my side and saw nothing wrong.

We will try new ammo and see what happens.

I owned a Walther 22 that is similar to the SR22
I bought it because I liked the Walther name ( maybe from 007 movies ) and it was Sexy ...
I shot a few hundred rounds through it and sold it
I wasn't accurate - it wouldn't feed ammo reliably - just generally a pain in the butt
My standard at the time was an old trusty Browning Buckmark that never gets cleaned, never seen ammo it didnt like and is a tack driver ....

If you are certain you are holding the gun firmly enough to provide resistance so the slide can work, it may just be the gun....

I agree with the folks who say to try different ammo. The only .22 that I own that shoots every ammo I feed it is my Henry... I guess someone needs to make a .22LR lever action HANDgun!

I know it is hard to find still, but trying different brands will help you find something your pistol likes. The only think I would stay away from in most semi-auto .22s is the sub-sonic stuff.

My ruger SR22 loves the cheap stuff. If you shoot a lot, find a gun that will shoot the cheap stuff. It will save you a fortune in the long run.

Or, these days, find the cheap stuff, if there is any. Then buy a gun that shoots it.

We also own a Ruger SR22. I've noticed that if you don't allow the trigger to fully reset between rounds that it will sometimes cause jams and failures to fire. I don't understand the mechanics, but if I follow this practice I don't have any problems with the gun.

Before they disappeared I found a good deal on bulk packs of .22LR and bought more than I'll shoot in a lifetime. My kids will be shooting them long after I'm gone.

Well, I'm convinced the gun does not like me. Hubby took the gun apart and cleaned and reassembled it following the manual. We went to the range and it started back up again. It's gotta be my grip. The gun did not stove pipe on hubby.

I'm so discouraged. I read about the "push -pull method" and will try again this weekend. I'm determined to solve this problem! . Good thing it's not my CH!!

I have a High Standard Sharpshooter that I bought new about 40 yrs ago and it never would and still won't shoot anything with CCI on the box. With anything else it's flawless.
