Re: $5,000 to Blow
Well, you say $5000 "to blow". I would think through what it would cost me to blow it.
For example, a 28 year-old could blow it on various gun purchases. Or, he could put that $5000 into a Roth IRA. Investing in a good mutual fund at say 12% return means that would be worth $465,000 at age 68.
Personally, a few guns at age 68 that I have owned for 40 years would not provide the same level of satisfaction as a well-funded retirement account.

Re: $5,000 to Blow
But, per the OP, you don't get the money unless you spend it on guns. So those 40 year old guns are more valuable than the $0 value you would have if you didn't buy the guns. Of course no one is giving anyone $5000 to do anything with anyway so it's really a moot point.Jumping Frog wrote:Well, you say $5000 "to blow". I'd buy the tooling to build firearms. Nothing fancy but just a milling machine, lathe & I don't think id have enough left over to buy a broaching maching to rifle the barrels.

Guns are a fairly liquid asset (easily sold) and thus an investment choice is still on the table. Which asset to own - guns versus mutual fund - is always a choice.jmra wrote: But, per the OP, you don't get the money unless you spend it on guns. I am thinking a match quality AR-10 and a KRISS 45ACP Carbine. Doubt there would be much left after that.

You fellers act like he isn't sending the money. I already bought the Colt Python on gun broker. The seller is awaiting payment.WildBill wrote:I'll even provide receipts!jmra wrote:I'll let you know what I decide to do as soon as the OP sends me the 5 grand.Jumping Frog wrote:Guns are a fairly liquid asset (easily sold) and thus an investment choice is still on the table. Re: $5,000 to Blow
A gas piston AR 15 with some cool glass and maybe a laser.
I only have $5000 to spend, so that kinda sucks.
My 2014 Roth is already filled up. Skipped to Fidelity with my check for $5500, so I'm gonna blow this next 5k on a dern gun, ok?!?

Tooling is so 20th century. How about 3D Printing? http://www.businessinsider.com/3d-print ... un-2013-11TBJK wrote:I'd buy the tooling to build firearms. Nothing fancy but just a milling machine, lathe & I don't think id have enough left over to buy a broaching maching to rifle the barrels.
The patent on 3D printing metal runs out in 2014. I am scouring kickstarter every day to see if someone will come out with a 3D metal printer. I missed the 3D Laser printer on kickstarter because they were sold out (over $1 million in sales) in the first HOUR. I have a 3D plastic printer and it is great. I can make holsters, gun grips, and flowers for Valentine's day. However, it cannot make a durable gun because the barrel and bolt will have to be metal. Besides, Sen. Steve Israel passed that law banning 3D printed plastic guns.
Re: $5,000 to Blow
Investments can always tank. Stuff you own will be enjoyed by you. Besides, can anyone guarantee you'll live to age 68? Just spend it now and let Social Security and Obamacare take care of you when you're old and decrepid.
Buy 2 guns, then sell one. Use $2500 to throw a big party with attractive entertainers, liquor, and a DJ at your local gun club. (just make sure everyone's finished shooting before you break out the liquor). Be sure to invite me. (thanks)

I've been looking at getting a 3d plastic printer. I have been playing around with openscad & designed some light pods for my Jeep. A lot of people like the makerfarm from what I've seendrjoker wrote:Tooling is so 20th century.
