"2 intruders shot in 2 days by homeowners

Clyde Buchanan said he shot through his home window when an intruder tried to break inside. Some homeowners have taken the law into their own hands.

In the last couple of days, two people have shot burglars they said were trying to get into their homes.

The first incident happened Saturday morning in Grand Prairie. A homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar in the 2800 block of Lake Park Drive.

It happened again Sunday night in Dallas when Clyde Buchanan said he shot an intruder in the 2800 block of Arizona Avenue.

"So, I told him stop man," Buchanan said he told the alleged intruder. "Get off my property, I have a gun."

But, Buchanan said the man didn't heed his verbal warnings.

"I told him I had a weapon, leave my premises," he said. "But he wouldn't. He kept pursuing [and] trying to get in, so I shot him."

A Vietnam veteran, Buchanan said he suffers from high blood pressure, Hepatitis C., and struggles to pay his bills. Also, he said in the six months he has lived in the neighborhood his home has been broken into several times.

They have taken heaters, televisions, all that stuff and an electric heater," he said.

Buchanan said in the latest attempted break in, a man was trying to come through a window. He said he was afraid, and had to protect himself when the alleged intruder didn't stop after several warnings

"Somebody trying to break into your house at one, two or three o'clock in the morning, what would you do?" he said.

Buchanan said he is tired of being victimized, and refuses to let the bad guys win.

"I am not going to leave," he said. "They are not going to run me off." "

"Some homeowners have taken the law into their own hands."

Yeah, you better not give the public the idea that thats ok to do, under certain circumstances...

And sometimes very reluctantly...3 warnings were given...Autopsy should confirm that the suspect was not deaf...

Wrong, some homeowners have taken responsibility for their own safety.

Some homeowners have taken the law into their own hands.
This phrase irritates me greatly.

"The law" is always in the hands of the citizens. We hire some people (police, prosecutors, judges) to handle it for us when we can't be there and give a measure of consistency, but their authority comes from us.

Granted, most of the citizenry have forgotten this, which suits some of the professionals just fine. Many pros act as if the law is theirs to give.

"Autopsy should confirm that the suspect was not deaf..."

That is often easier said than done, but the business end of a handgun is universal sign language! :D

he didn't need a warning. It wasn't his window to try to get through. I don't care if by some unlikely even he turns up deaf.

I agree...And I am certainly not deaf...Neither should that cause you pause to consider that possibility, when faced with the same situation...

I was only being fascicious (sp?), echhh...
