Using that logic, it is silly for police or our troops to wear body armor because it assumes the BG shoots you in the upper torso.RogueUSMC wrote:This is all assuming the BG hits you in the forehead...Pawpaw wrote:I'm not going to rush out and buy a $125.00 ball cap, but it probably does have some value.
I don't think you're likely to survive a square-on hit, but it might provide enough deflection of an angled shot.
Given the dynamics of most encounters and the fact that our noggins are round, I think there is a high likelihood the bullet would strike a glancing blow.
No reason to speculate how well the cap works. We already have the "after" picture.
An old friend of mine in the Pasadena PD was in an exchange of fire with a suspect who had just shot my friend in the stomach with a .410 shotgun, during a B&E investigation of an empty home. My friend was a competitive shooter. When he was hit, he went down on his back and immediately drew his weapon. He returned fire and hit the suspect in the forehead between the eyebrows at an upward angle (from across the room as the suspect was running up an open staircase, no less) with his service .357. The bullet deflected off the suspect's frontal bone and dissected between the bone and scalp, staying under the scalp until it popped out the back.....the perp being no worse for the wear other than needing stitches and some aspirin. The suspect was a petty criminal with a record and was known to local police. For reasons I don't recall, the suspect was never tried or convicted for shooting my friend. Lack of witnesses, or maybe he fled town.....whatever. My friend was very bitter about it.treadlightly wrote:Not sure about this one, but aren't there cases of survivors hit in the noggin, the bullet deflected by whatever they call the goo that attaches your scalp to your headbone? (Sorry for the specific medical terms, but I like precision of expression.)
Maybe a tough cloth that would enhance the deflection of a non-direct bullet strike would do some good.
But the big question is whether the manufacturer will trust their own products, like Davis trusts his Second Chance vests - " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
