Could you elaborate, sir? I have very little revolver time (50 rounds in 1993), but a fair amount of SA time.
I have to agree with the OP that I too want a revolver just "to see how the other half live."

Re: Revolver help
Most semi-auto's operation makes the trigger pull much easier, allowing for quick and accurate follow-up shots. Revolvers will always have strong trigger pulls unless the hammer is cocked before each shot, which greatly slows the shooter's rate of fire. The sights on a revolver are on a fixed barrel.
The grip is totally different. If you place your thumb of the week hand on revolver on the side as you do with a Semi you are going to walk away with severe powder burns, so it takes some getting use to in changing your grip. People tend to push a revolver to the side more than a Semi because they use to much force on the trigger.
I personally think that someone needs to spend a little more time shooting the revolver if they choose to carry one. I carry a revolver almost 80% of the time.
I started with revolvers in LE in the early 80's, so I am still emotionally attached. There are a lot of pluses to a revolver and I know there are a pluses for the Semi. I just choose my revolvers. With my eyes now I really like the lasers and love the night sights.
We have some experts on here (as I am not one of them) and maybe they will weigh in a little. SRVA could help us out here if he catches the thread. If you have not seen this video with Jerry Miculek it is great to watch. It is possible to become just as efficient with a revolver if not better than a Semi for some.

Re: Revolver help
The biggest issue with a revolver (and DAO semi-autos) is trigger management. You need to ensure the finger has good placement on the trigger, then apply enough force to start the trigger moving and add just enough force to keep it moving until the hammer drops. Once the hammer drops, you need to need to fully reset the trigger and repeat the process. This all has to be done in a way that doesn't upset sight picture or sight alignment. The problem most people have is that they either apply too much force, too quickly and throw the shot or they try to get the hammer to a "set" position just before the break and then align the sights before pulling through. This also tends to throw the shot. Smooth and steady is the best way to manage a revolver trigger.
Regarding the grip, I use pretty much the same grip as I use for semi auto.
Reloads...now those are an entire thread on their own. Generally, they will take you three times longer than reloading a semi auto.

When it comes to revolvers, Jerry is 'Da Man'! And, as already noted on here, our own SRVA and High Velocity are right up there close with Jerry. These guys know of what they speak when it comes to revolvers and shooting in competiton.USA1 wrote:WOW Carl , the above video is amazing , especially the reload .![]()

Re: Revolver help
I'd love to have a 5-shot Ruger SP101 in .44 Special. Ruger had a countdown to the release of new products recently and I was hoping for something interesting, but instead they introduced the GP100 and the Blackhawk in .327 Federal. That's a round I can't get excited about--I can't see what it can do that can't be accomplished by .38 or .357. If I want higher capacity, for the same size I can carry a semiauto with more rounds than the 6 in a J-frame sized .327.WildBill wrote:[The .44 Special is a great cartridge, but I think that is only available in the Charter Arms Bulldog. I don't think much of their quality. I wish that Smith & Wesson manufactured one. For concealed carry, that pretty much leaves the .38 Special and .357 Magnum.
I have a S&W 642 in .38spl and a 4" GP100 in .357, both of which are great guns.

Re: Revolver help
Update...I have narrowed my search to a S&W 325pd airweight in .45acp with 2 1/2" barrel or and Ruger SP101 chambered in .357mag with same 2 1/2" barrel. I know the S&W is a lot more money but it sure has a visual appeal that the SP101 does not have unless some customer stuff is added. If I got the S&W I would leave it alone, if I got the Ruger I would probably send it to Gemini Customs to get some work done right after I bought it. I'm just looking for thoughts and opinions right now...

Like the gunfighters of yore, aim carefully with a revolver and you won't have to reload.Reloads...now those are an entire thread on their own. Generally, they will take you three times longer than reloading a semi auto.

Re: Revolver help
Nothing against Marc at Gemini because he is a great guy in fact he is returning a SP101 to me this week, BUT I would not buy a SP101 if you are going to send it off. One he has had my SP101 since November and two it is not cheap. You would be better off in the long running paying the extra up front for the Smith in my opinion. I carry a 340PD daily. Most of the time it is my BUG, but every now and then it is my primary.RECIT wrote:Update...I have narrowed my search to a S&W 325pd airweight in .45acp with 2 1/2" barrel or and Ruger SP101 chambered in .357mag with same 2 1/2" barrel. Re: Revolver help
Thank you for your opinion. I think you are right. I too am leaning towards the S&W. It has an attraction to me that I have never had to a revolver. It may not be today or tomorrow but I think I am going to order one. Does anyone know a good S&W dealer in Houston to order from? I doubt anyone will have this revolver in stock.
