Actually, the sad part is that this is a fairly minor error compared to some that this former C- English student catches almost every day.JJVP wrote:

The writer also took seriously the t-shirt my daughter got as a joke:
I'm an English major, you do the math.
Of course, I won't point that out to him since it would feed into his prejudice against high-capacity magazines and these weapons. This way i can use his own statement to ask how limiting the magazine capacity would have helped.

The way I count it, 2 * 17 plus 30 nearly accounts for the 71 people shot. Much more ammo in the rifle would easily cover it (especially since we know it was a 100 round magazine). So, no, Holmes did not have to reload any of the weapons to shoot as much as he did.The AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle, nearly identical in appearance to a military M16, that usually holds up to 30 rounds of high-powered ammunition.
But AP tweeted that Holmes had a high-capacity, drum-style ammo clip in the rifle that can carry much more ammunition than a box-shaped magazine.
The Glocks are also semi-automatic, meaning once a round is chambered all the shooter needs to do is keep pulling the trigger until the clip is empty. They weigh about 2 lbs when loaded with up to 17 .40 caliber rounds. The .40 calibers flatten when they enter the body, without passing through, causing the most damage possible.
With all this hardware, Holmes burst in through an exit door at the front of the theater, tossed at least one tear gas canister to the floor and fired into the ceiling causing profound chaos and panic.
Twelve people are believed to be dead of the 71 people shot. That's a lot of bullets – meaning Holmes had to reload as he calmly stalked the theater, shooting people running for the exits as he walked up the aisle
Of course, I won't point that out to him since it would feed into his prejudice against high-capacity magazines and these weapons. This way i can use his own statement to ask how limiting the magazine capacity would have helped.

I have heard the young folks and socially liberal people where I work repeating this same type of incorrect information. We live in a society that has determined that evil and the devil does not exist.
Here we had an evil man, commit an evil act, so the news media and political system struggling to define what happened and assert blame without acknowledging the presence of evil. The obvious answer is to blame the tools the man used.
The human mind is remarkably creative, and a mind which has given itself over to evil will find a way.
How about enforcing the laws that already exist? A fair and speedy trial coupled with a speedy execution will honor the victims much more than bronze plaques and sad news reports.

Bill O'Reilly was stating last night that he recently purchased "60,000 rounds" so we need a tracking program to keep people from having that much ammo,,,,,no one "needs" that much ammo....
Pontificating and sensationalizing just like the libs he rails against.....![banghead :banghead:](./images/smilies/banghead.gif)

wonder if he'd consider donating it to a good cause if he admits to not needing it.txbirddog wrote:Bill O'Reilly was stating last night that he recently purchased "60,000 rounds" so we need a tracking program to keep people from having that much ammo,,,,,no one "needs" that much ammo....

With today's cordless phones, no one needs a 25 foot phone cord. I had a lady friend off I-10 Katy Freeway in Houston strangled with one in the late 1970s before she was locked in the trunk of her car and it was set on fire ... we really need the government to keep books on who purchases those telephone cords.
