chl- expired. Can't see paying for same lisence over and over again. When state only cares about the money, not how good you shoot or how you handle a firearm.
First - welcome to the Forum
Second - If Heaven forbid you get into a situation where you need to defend yourself you might see a reason to have paid the State their money.

What kind of software engineering do you do? I'm not a software engineer but I play one in real life, with UNIX C/C++/Perl/Python and when I'm forced to....Java.
If your username is Buffalo_Speedway_TX, I'm guessing you're from Houston!

no guns.... yet haha (suggestions welcome)
I always recommend a .22 for a first purchase. Especially now that ammunition costs an eye and a tooth, you can get a lot of practice on the cheap.
Nearly all the .22 revolvers and pistols currently manufactured are good. You can't go wrong with a Ruger Mark III, and you can find used models pretty cheap.

Hello my fellow 2nd Amendment fans/self-defense community.
I'm 56, divorced, live in Lewisville.
Been on long-term exile from Dilbert's world.
Although well-read and a newshound, the Texas CHL
world was a complete cipher to me until I met a work
friend who had moved from Hawaii to Texas and shared
his CHL journey with me. I took my class, qualified with my
instructor's XD/SC/40, and received my CHL in the mail only 45 days
after Austin received.
12/4/08 - I received my CHL but then had no gun!
1/9/09 - Bought my starter gun - a Taurus Millenium (non-Pro), PT-111B,
9MM. I really want a Springfield XD of some sort but after getting the new
shooter's requisite drawer full of holster tryouts, I'm not sure I want to re-equip
for a different gun.
I carried the gun unloaded for 2 weeks until I had a chance to blow off 125 rounds
at Bass Pro in Grapevine, TX. Once I knew it went bang I started carrying it
loaded, but without one in the chamber. That lasted until I found out you have to
be a 3-handed shooter to rack the slide, push the mag up into position, and chamber a
round. I couldn't even do it at home with no bad guy in front of me!
I now carry in Condition One, if that doesn't offend any of you 1911 fans!
I'm really glad I have my CHL and my gun, but when I think of all the cops who
never fire their guns during long cop careers, I kind of feel like "all dressed up
and nowhere to go." Which of course boils down to "I'd rather have it and not need it, then
need it and not have it."
