Tried one once, despite all the negative press I'd heard about them. Needless to say I returned it the next day. They're best used as a door stop if at all...

What gun did you try them with and what was the major problem?

I attempted to use promag mags for a Bersa .380, as well as an AR-15.
Both were absolute, complete garbage.

I ended up using the ar-15 promags as targets. Constant FTF's with both.

I tried one with my Sig 229. For whatever reason it refused to feed rounds. Additionally, you had to slap it several times to get it to catch in the mag-well, and would then fall out for no reason while shooting. Just too many problems for me to overlook. Spend the couple extra dollars and go with a factory mag, its well worth it.

I've heard nothing but bad things about them, though the only experience I have with them personally is a couple of 15 rd M1 carbine mags that work great in my gun that is suppose to be junk as well (Universal...). Maybe its just a fluke!

Thumbs down on ProMag mags.

I would suggest sticking with factory mags for a self defense gun. Factory mags are the safest bet.

I concur on the promag for the bersa thunder 380. Garbage!

I have one that I use for a range mag for my Springfield XD's that has been 100% reliable.

On the other hand, I had one for a Ruger P89 that I used to own that was completely useless. Seems it was slightly longer than the Ruger factory mags and would lock the slide open with any pressure at all on the baseplate.

It ended up in the trashcan at the range.

As others have said, stick to factory mags for everyday carry.

During the bad old days of the Clinton Assault Weapon Ban, I found some Pro-Mag 13-rounders for a Browning HP pretty cheap . . . around $13 each, IIRC, so I bought four.

They seemed to work just fine, so I took a handgun class, and used them exclusively in my Mk III BHP.

Something over 1000 rounds went downrange that weekend, all fired from the BHP and those four Pro Mags . . .

I had no malfunctions of any type, and they still continue to work just fine to this day.

My experience has been negative as well - they work sometimes, but that's about all that can be said for them. If you buy one, it should definitely only be used at the range.

Anyone know the real reason they do not work well? Is it the spring or?

I have had 2 pro mags. One worked everytime and the other does not work.
The one that worked for for a Taurus PT145. Never had any problems with it.
The one that is not working is for my H&K USP45. It is one of the 20 rounders. I got it to use at the range. It will only not feed right. I have thought about getting an H&K follower to put in it to see if that will make it work.
