Dangit, why did I pick it up and play with it

I have a friend, who is a girl (worlds apart from a girlfriend!), that has just signed up for the CHL class, as well as a one on one instruction time before the class.

While we were and she was signing up I started looking at compact revolvers for her to carry when that day comes. I picked up an S&W 642 which was nicely priced at like $350 +/- (dont remember). It is a really nice gun!

However, I was addicted when I picked up the one next to it which was the same 642 with the laser grip! It was solid - on off switch on the bottom of the grip, and the laser is activated by a pressure switch in the "middle finger groove" of the grip.

I really want one. I guess the grip could be added so I could just get a 642 for me and add the grip, but I think she is going to be getting that one I was playing with.

And to Steve (SRVA)who offered to meet up with us, and for his wife to work with her, she didnt want to drive to conroe and she doesnt fully understand how it will help her. It is frustrating, but at least is getting one on one training before the class.

Though I was all over, the point of the post is that the 642 with laser grip sight is very cool and I want one.

And here is the link to S&W info. Regardless what the web said this one was in the low $500 range at the dealer.

I used to like their titanium/SC model, but given the short barrel and the size of the revolver, I rather have a heftier gun than a light one.

Those grips are made by Crimson Trace. I have them on the Sig 229 that I carry. Only thing you have to keep in mind is that you cannot rely on them, as batteries die, and you can't see the laser at all in direct sun light.

I see them as one more tool that I can carry, with the hope that if I ever needed to draw my weapon the little red dot on the BG's chest would help convince him to stop whatever he is doing. Also, they would make it easier to handle a cell phone (to call 911) and keep the weapon aimed.

Ain't that the truth. My list keeps growing with no end in sight. Unfortunately a mortgage and three kids keeps the list growing instead of shrinking.

the 642 is nice. Light enough to forget I'm carrying it. Not a big gun but nice as backup or for those casual times. 8)

That is the wife's carry piece, minus the laser. If and when I stumble across a good deal on one, I will pick up another.

I always thought my wife would lean towards the .38 revolver type pistols...Simple, discrete, you have to do a lot to mess up with one...

Instead she's going in the other direction...

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to .45's

.45's lead to Les Baer wallets...
