JSC Federal Credit Union - Must Disarm?

#1

Post by Abraham »

Since "Federal" is part of the title, must I disarm before entry?

Anyone know?

I have to go there this morning and ...?

Thanks all!

When a bank (by whatever name) has "federal" or "national" in its name, that simply means that the institution is chartered by the federal government. The CHL situation is the same as most other businesses: You can carry unless it is 30.06 posted.

Some JSC branches are posted. (I'm aware of this because I am a member.)

Do you disarm before buying Federal ammunition?

Now I wonder if it's legal to shoot a Colt Government Model.

That's a smart foot response. I like it.

Jim,

Thanks for your help!

KD5NRH ,

Is your ridicule an attempt to throw cold water on questions you deem unnecessary?

Abraham, given the way the federal government tries to keep weapons out of various places, it's reasonable to ask about banks and credit unions.

I'm sure if they could have found a cosntitutionally acceptable way to keep weapons out of those places, they would have.

All branches of JSC Federal Credit Union that I have been to are posted with 30.06 signs. They appear to be compliant in wording and size.

Drive thru works for me and I do not have to disarm there!

The Galveston branch isn't. It is inside an office building that has an obsolete sign. Maybe they think that works.

Help me out here. I thought that it was a federal law (regardless of state CHL rules) that you can't bring any gun into a federally chartered or insured bank. 30.06 sign or not, isn't it still against federal law to bring a gun into a bank?
That's the general question, and I guess the follow up question is: Is a Federal Credit Union legally considered a bank?
God and the soldier we adore,
In times of danger, not before.
The danger gone, the trouble righted,
God's forgotten, the soldier slighted.

I've never heard of such a law. The United States Code is pretty complicated, but diligent people dig up these things.

I doubt that federal law exists. There may be a law that states you can't bring guns into a federal bank. As in federal reserve bank. And those are NOT the same as your local FDIC or NCUA bank/credit union.

The federal reserve is private property, not federal. (Yet another reason we need to destroy that beast.)

There is no federal law restricting firearms in banks. Only a couple of states ban carry in banks (I think NC is one, and I forget the other).
