McCain... 2A... Is it true?

While I may not agree with everything John McCain says or does, it is important to me that he defend our 2A rights. I was browsing through his website and saw this page--his stance on the 2A--and like everything he has to say. Everything.

I am, however, young. This will be only my second opportunity to vote and I would not want to seem naive and believe anything I read on the web--much less on a candidate's own website, where anything could be posted.

Does McCain stand by what he says on this fact sheet? Does his legislative history back up his strong "opinions" on the 2A?

McCain's legislative history backs up whatever will get him press coverage for being "maverick" against the GOP and siding with Democrats.

McCain's voting history is not that of a strong 2A supporter. Or a 1A supporter. In fact, his McCain-Fiengold campaign finance reform act was also known as the "Get the NRA" act - an example of his dubious stance on both of the first 2 amendments.

One of his shining moments in the senate that I recall was loudly working towards closing the "gun show loophole." i.e. banning private firearm sales, and eliminating gun shows in the process. Not strong on the 2A at all, in my opinion, though almost certainly better than any of the dems that are left. I wouldn't put a new "assault weapons ban" past him.

I can say the only thing that will make a McCain Presidency tolerable is if Conservatives gain seats in Congress. Otherwise, we will see infringements on private sales at gun shows as well as other restrictions. He is left of G.W. Bush, something I thought would never allow another Republican to be President. He is what I call a "high-maintenance politician". That is, one that must constantly be watched and warned and fought because he is doing everything in his power to strip us commoners of our rights. He, however, is malleable where neither of the Liberal Dems are.

My main fear is McCain and this liberal Congress together. He will sell us out and will rejuvenate the anti-2A rights minority. Of course, that is going to happen no matter what. He is not and never will be pro-2A rights or any individual right. Our only hope is to beat him down early and stay on his throat until we can replace him with a true 2A Conservative. That, at this point, has as much chance to be a Democrat as a Republican. The latter has sold us out and do not deserve my money, time, or support. If someone is going to steal my rights and destroy the country it might as well be a Democrat. All the emotion aside, he is a better choice than either of the Dems. Not by much though. That is my opinion.

:iagree:

Sadly, if I can even bring myself to vote for him, I'll have to wear rubber gloves into the voting booth.

Saddest part about it...its either him..or one of the others

It really is a bad day in democracy when you have to vote "Anyone but Hillary"

McCain is the lesser of the evils, if there is a such thing. I keep telling myself that I will be voting against either Hillary or Obama. Our best hope is to change the make up of Congress. If McCain or one of the others get in with the liberal control of congress we are in major trouble.
Encourage everyone you know to vote and vote correctly.

I'm surprised that I'm not seeing more Ron Paul supporters. Even if you didn't like him to begin with, look at the three alternatives.

I didn't mention him because I'm trying to be civil. BTW, it looks as if he is going to have a hard fight for the Texas 14th in the primary. Now, if they have been paying attention to his national pronouncements, his electorate is aware of the extent of his pathologies.[/hijack]

I continue to see a lot of angsts among our dedicated membership here tonight...

Be knot afraid! Do what you must in the primary, it'll make you feel much better, and then ignore the race for that job in November...Nothing is going to change what we know is going to happen...

So...Here's what ya do...Make sure you go down and vote for every conservative on the ballot...Allllll the way down...Don't miss a single judge, county clerk, County Judge etc etc etc...

That way we shore up the defenses for the next year or so till we can do it again...Its important to do what we can to reverse what will be known as the Obama Effect...

"I don't know what he stands for, but all I know is that he is for the future and wants to change it!"

(How can you change something that hasn't happened??? I'll leave this to y'all to decide how stoopid some can be...)

This was basically a little video bite I saw this morning about the Obama rally here in Houston yesterday...If anyone thinks Hillary is bad...Obama is ten times as worse...McCain can be handled, and if need be made ineffective if he goes off the reservation...He won't get support from me, simply because he does not represent anything conservative I can see, and I have been looking...

So I am not going to dwell on the fact that there will be a liberal in the WH next year...Its the kind of liberal that we need to be wary of and try to keep those two bad ones out of there next year...

I encourage everyone to get out and vote early, get it over with, and be ready to vote again in a runoff...Yes, there is going to be some runoffs, so we need to stay up on this stuff...November will be another time to just get it over with and hunker down for the next two years...Don't let the Presidential debacle keep you from the polls...

This is how we right, and potentially keep in check some wrongs that might very well be coming our way...But we need to stay focused and know exactly what we need to do...

For those undecideds, you may have a little time left...After that...
