I am looking for a good safe for the bedside, a quite one that I can access easily without moving (to give off that I am drawing). I have seen the VersaVault and the ADG Secure Vault, among some others, and they all seem to either make some sort of noise when the buttons are pressed or the door "snaps" open making a racket in the middle of the night.

I have seen the posting with the various links, great post, but not a whole lot of choices for pistols or proper bedside manners.

Nothing you can buy will be totally silent.

The noise the box makes when you open it is nothing compared to the noise you will near if/when you pull the trigger. I wouldn't worry about it.

Besides, in my case, my German Shepard will be making such a racket at that point that no one will hear me accessing my gun.

Another thing is that I usually leave the box unlocked when I turn in for the night. I only lock it when I leave in the morning. I don't have any small children, so I don't worry about anyone (like a curious child) sneaking in and messing with it while I am asleep. And when my kids were small, they got training in gun safety so they wouldn't do anything like that anyway.

I have a gunvault. You can program out the beep if I'm not mistaken.

When I open mine, I use 3 fingers on the code, and use my thumb to slow down the doors force of opening making it pretty quiet. I like mine

Same here... The "beep" is turned off. Change the batteries once per year and you are all set. I use my thumb to slow down the door too. You can program the finger code to any code you like. Mine is.... oops... nevermind. I keep the back-up key in my long gun safe. http://www.gunvault.com

I have looked in to the Gun Vault, nice box. I guess I was just over thinking the process, and should be most concerned with keeping 1 of my 4 curious kids out of the safe; they don't know I am armed with more than a knife right now (this leads to another discussion for later).

I have a GunVault GV2000 next to the bed that I keep open at night with 3 loaded guns and a spare mag for my Glock. I also have it programmed where the buttons are silent and it is teathered around my bed frame.

So it would appear that the GunVault is the consensus on the board. I'll go pick one up then, I did see they have a biometric one which is kinda cool; I would hope swiping your finger wouldn't make much noise

Thanks to all. I'll be posting a question later then on how to properly introduce guns to kids since I know the new box by Dad's bed will raise some questions.

I might be old fashioned but I'm leary of the biometric feature. What if I cut a finger and it changes what my print looks like? Or if my finger needs to have a band-aid on it?

I have a Quick-Safe that I bought years ago for around 100 bucks. It's bolted to the floor. It uses a simplex type mechanical pushbutton lock that I have programmed to open by just pushing two of the buttons. (No one is going to guess which two, right?) Pushing the buttons isn't totally silent, but they make very little noise. And it's a moot point anyway because I leave it unlocked when I turn in for the night.

Not to mention that the noise made by pushing the buttons is nothing compared the booming sounds that will be made if it turns out that I actually NEED to access the gun some night.

Dang, now I don't remember what model I have. It's not biometric, it's got the 4 buttons on top. I took black duct tape and some gauze pads and taped over the speaker. It's not silent, but it's significantly quieter. I also have it bolted to the metal bed frame rail that holds our box springs. When the door opens, it hits the mattress and that keeps it quiet too.

The thought of that has always bothered me, what happens if you have one of those really freaky dreams and you happen to sleep on your stomach with your hands under the pillow and can feel the pistol. Did I just disclose too much info about myself ?

Sometimes I feel the pistol with my hand........it feels good......warm and fuzzy......

May have been.....I really don't know......

But even if he did say that, I actually have one and know how to use it. Big difference.......

Something maybe he should have considered himself.......
