Same or equivalent to REGISTRATION, only WORSE!
Brady Bunch would LOVE this!
If something like this were to be done at all, then it should be done to all LEO agency's guns and ALL guns that are for sale at Dealers.
Once the Dealer sells the gun, then he would remove the chip.

Wow... I doubt this would fly. This could be used by Big Brother to track legally responsible carrying citizens in an area and give them undue scrutiny. I'd be more concerned with the ones who modded their weapons to remove the chip and are up to no good.

Let the police try this junk for about 20 years.

Re: A Responsible Idea?
I'm constantly amazed at the hypocrisy among the left and, in particular, the anti-gunners. Here, we have the anti-guns proposing GPS chips inserted in every handgun. Well, what does that chip do? It reports back to the government the exact location of that weapon at all times. If that weapon is in my house, in my car, on my hip, it is effectively a means by which the government can keep track of my movements.
The hypocrisy, you ask? The Patriot Act. Our personal right to privacy was supposedly under attack by The Patriot Act. The left believed that listening in on overseas communications subverted our rights to privacy and flew in the face of the Fourth Amendment.
I guess it's ok to compromise a gun owner's right to privacy.
Couple that with the fact that any technology can be defeated. As with most gun-control identification gimmicks, the criminals will simply remove it, destroy it or render it useless. It will only be useful in tracking the law abiding gun owner.

How can you say such a thing?

Says right there she graduated from Flagler College last May and is working in the finance department at the paper.
Flagler College Home > Academics > Majors/Minors > Journalism
"The journalism minor is available to students who are not majoring in Communication but wish to augment their major with journalism skills. This minor is ideal for the student who plans to become a subject-matter-expert and have the ability to write for or broadcast in the media professionally about his or her chosen field."
Her Daddy had guns so she is a "subject-matter-expert".

DA,
C'mon. You KNOW that we are the only threat! That is why they legislate the bejeebus out of us lawful citizens but criminals get away with murder.

Re: A Responsible Idea?
My credit cards tell them where I am. My EZ tag tells them where I am. My phone tells them where I am. My Blackberry tells them where I am. My CHL already tells them that I'm probably armed. The unlock key in my work ID tells my employer what room I'm in.
I was looking into getting my home refinanced and within 30 seconds, the nice lady I was talking to knew more about me than I did.
If gps doodads are put in guns, I'll never purchase a new gun again or I will figure a way to defeat it.
I'm surprised that chick in the story didn't tie that gun control smoke into some sort of "save the children" spiel.
Not Interested.

Re: A Responsible Idea?
The word "reasonable" used to be the primary buzzword used by the gun control crowd...Trying to plead with the soccer mom crowd and other marginal bleeding heart types to try and dismiss the "reasonable" and (obviously more historically correct) of our side of the issue...
Now we see a new and subtle transition to the word "responsible"...I have to say this is absolutely an insult to most of us who consider our efforts to promote safety, knowledge of the law, the moral and mature side of our position on the issue...
The play on words really tends to frap me to no end...
I may be a bit extreme in my view on this, and maybe a bit over the top attitude-wise...So sue me...
Sometimes things tend to rub me wrong...Good thing I am a reasonable, responsible guy to begin with...I just don't need someone playing off the terms to insinuate that I (and many more, and better people than I) am (are) not of those qualities to begin with...
