PASADENA, Texas -- Some Pasadena residents had a frightening start to their day Friday when a fire broke out at an ammunition manufacturing business.

It happened in the 2700 block of Shaver before 5 a.m.

Officials say a worker at the business was melting lead to make bullets when his work station erupted in flames.

The fire sent black powder and chemicals into the air.

The worker got out safely and called the fire department.

When fire crews arrived, they worked furiously to get the blaze under control.

As the fire burned, loud pops and bursts of sparks shot out of the building as the bullets inside exploded.

Authorities were concerned about the chemicals released by the fire, so they ordered the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex.

Once they determined the chemicals weren’t harmful, they allowed residents back into their homes.

The residents were safe, but in the dark. Authorities had to shut off their power when the fire broke out.

"sent 'black powder' and chemicals into the air"

"bullets exploding"

Reporter has no idea what he/she/it's talking about.

They dont have to to be reporters. Truth has nothing to do w/ journalism.
Sometimes I think those 2 words diametrically oppose one another. :banghead: :banghead:

What fabulous reporting, 3 reporters, a printed version, a live shot, and not a single mention of the business's name. The live reporter saying sodium cyadine, instead of cyanide made me laugh though.
Any idea what the name of the company is?

Well, I am ready to bet that the cost of ammo will increase again, at least in the Pasadena area.

Doesn't matter all that much. Folks in Pasadena are pretty used to things catching on fire and exploding. Happens all the the time there, only difference this time is that the stuff burning wasn't anywhere near as nasty as what normally gets exploded there.

They also go by Jaro Manufacturing. Ammo quality not good.

Bullets weights and sizing not consistent. Lot of misfires. Bullets keyholing.
