After some information gathering, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Hi-Point 9mm Carbine from my local gun shop in League City, The Arms Room.

Great shop, if you’re in the area, drop in and take a look, as the name implies they are a bona fide Arms Room!

Looking forward to going to the range, and will write a report as soon as time permits.

Anyone else have this generously priced carbine?

not yet, but I have seriously considered one as a "fun gun". When 9mm ammo was under $4 per box it would have been a lot more fun though!

I'm not familiar with this carbine you mentioned. I do have the Kel-tec sub 2000 .40 folder that takes glock mags. If its anything like mine, it's lots of fun to shoot!

I have one. With a red dot, you can shoot 10 for 10 in a torso at 100 yards, generally in the 8 to 10 rings. Not bad with 9mm.

The 9mm pistol can use the carbine's magazines. The standard 8 round pistol cannot be used in the carbine.

Excellent gun, well over 1000 rounds down the pipe with no failures. The pistol is top heavy but a good shooter. One stove pipe on a reload.

I paid 145 for mine and picked up one for my father in law for 139. That was while I was in Ohio, they are made there. He has his in his camping trailer with the attitude that if it is stolen, no big loss.

When I try out as an extra on the next Planet of the Apes, I am going to carry it along.

Because of their price, they tend to be bought by people who abuse the heck out of them, then pawn them when the need arises. A lot of the used ones are in very rough shape and sell cheap.

And that's the good news, because they have an outstanding warranty.

I have a buddy in Washington state who snaps up every High-Point carbine he can find for under a c-note, and he can usually get the junkers for under $75. No matter what is wrong with them when he sends them in for repair, he gets back an essentially new gun. And sometimes an actually new gun, if they decide that's cheaper than repairing the old one. Cost: zero.

He usually has no problem making $25-50 on them when he's done.

I have a Colt AR in 9mm and I love it. The smaller diameter mags are a lot easier to manipulate.

I have one, it came with the aftermarket ATI stock and it broke. I have been meaning to send it in for months now and haven't gotten around to it. It's a fun plinker, but leave the stock alone.

Never, ever drop a loaded Colt 32 round mag. Ever seen the old "snakes in a peanut can" gag? Yeah. It's like that.

Never had an issue with them dropped or not.

Huh, I like the pawn shop buy em' cheap idea! That would be a cool way to get a fun little rifle to play with!

I've got the KT Sub 2000 in 9mm that takes Glock mags. Lots of fun but it's a "black hole" for ammo. The worst is handing it to someone with the 30 round mag and watch them empty it in less than 60 seconds.

You should have lots of fun with it.

I had a KT Sub2K 9mm with Beretta mags for a while. It was a great shooter. Even with the rather frail looking front sight blade you could keep all shots minute of pie plate at 50 yards. One of my best friends had a Ruger 9mm rifle that would not shoot any where near as well as the KT. I have heard about the same stories of reliability and accuracy (same as KT) concerning the ugly as mud Hi-Point carbine. Sure won't lose much money trying one anyway.

(personally I want a Beretta Storm, but it wouldn't be any more practical for me than the Hi-Point would)
