Carry Belt - crossbreed vs. comp-tac vs. beltman

#1

Post by fisher_of_man »

so here's the deal. I'm new into CCW. In fact, I haven't taken my class yet, but will be in the next week to 10 days. I'll be carrying a full size M&P .40 IWB (might possibly use the K&D OWB in the winter from time to time). Have a K&D Thunderbird on order (be here around end of Jan/first of Feb). Will probably purchase a Crossbreed Supertuck to carry me thru til then...and to use in conjunction with my Thunderbird. After pouring over all the info I can find, I realize and understand that a good gun belt is a must...and am ok with that. But the more I read, the more I can't make up my mind. I've narrowed it down to 3 options: Crossbreed, Comp-tac, and Beltman.

regardless of which one it is, I want a brown 1.5" with velcro (I'll have to tuck at work - no way out of this). I read (from their sites) that the Beltman has two pieces of 6-7 oz bullhide leather sewn together. Crossbreed says it uses 1 piece of 8-9 oz latigo leather backed by a piece of 4 -5 oz top grain cowhide. Comptac...well...I'm not real sure, but they automatically put a strip of Kydex in it. They all apparently have great reputations and thier own followings. the comptac and beltman only have a year warranty...but crossbreed (as with their holsters) offers a 2 week trail period and then a LIFETIME warranty.

I've heard such great things about Crossbreed, but haven't seen or heard about many who have thier belts yet. Everybody swears Beltman hung the moon and it seems as though his website offers more "options" when ordering as far as type and color of buckle, number of holes and spacing, taper, etc. The Comp-tac actually appeals to me more just looking at the pictures.

which would you choose of the three....an no...there isn't a "none of the above"...or "I wouldn't choose any of them".

Can I possibly go wrong with any of them? would one last longer then the others? is there one that is more sturdy of the group? HELP!!!

I have never done business with Crossbreed, so i can't speak about them. Comp-Tac's customer service is top notch as is The Beltman's, and both produce a quality product. I am partial to The Beltman because I like the options that he offers. I prefer a nickel buckle and a non-tapered belt personally.

IMO you can't go wrong with either of these two if they offer what you are looking for

Comp-Tac. I have had the priviledge of going to their shop and have seen them work on holsters and belts. They are impressive.

Crossbreed is a very reputable business.

I ordered a horse hide natural leather OWB holster and then I moved to a new address. I sent them my new address and was assured it would be sent when ready to my new address. After not seeing it at the expected time of delivery, I found out they'd sent it to my old address after all and as soon as I learned this I knew I'd never see it...

When I informed them of this sad fact, the owner of Crossbreed immediately made me another and sent it to my new address within two days.

That's great customer service.

Their products aren't quite as nice as Comp Tac, but for the lower cost they make very functional goods. I'm quite pleased with the holster.

I have the 1 1/2" sharkskin from the beltman. Yes it's more expensive, but has the stiffener included in the price. It is a great looking functional belt, can carry full size PX4 or my SP101 and they just disappear because of the good support.

wow....guess I'm not totally surprised at the overwhelming response for Beltman (read many, many good things about them)....just assumed that the other two would also get more response. Hmmm....very interesting. Keep the opinions coming! and thanks to those of you that have responded....and to those of you that will!

for those of you Beltman voters....is the horsehide that much better? says its stiffer and more durable. I hadn't planned on getting the stiffner added to the 1.5" bullhide, but will i need it with my full size M&P? is it better to get the horsehide since it's a full size gun?

I have three Beltman bullhide belts without stiffeners or other doodads and I'm happy with them. I have one brown, one black and one impression belt. If you like the look of horsehide or shark or elephant then get that but the bullhide looks and works good for me.

Comp Vest you must live near the Spring area?

I love Comp-Tac I own two One for my Kimber Pro Carry and one for my Spring Field XD both 4inch barrels and both 45 ACP. The ride easy and blend right in. hold tight no slip. I'd buy one again and again. Great service too and they ship a pack of smarties with every purchase :thumbs2:

I have the Comp Tac and its a solid belt that really gives great support. Also comp tac's customer service is top notch and that alone would convince me to choose them.

I use a Walmart belt. i think it was about 25 bucks and it works just fine. i carry inside the waist band anyway, so I am not convinced a 100 dollar belt is needed. Is there something I am not considering here?

A good gun belt will hold the gun annd holster right wear you want it. and not move.

I don't have experience with the other two but the Beltman sure is nice once you get it broken in.
