Today my wife and I went out to the private outdoor range with another couple, who brought along their two twin 8 year old girls.
We brought:
Kahr CW9 9mm
S&W SW9VE 9mm
Daisy 840 junky BB rifle
Winchester 190 .22LR rifle (my dad's)
H&R .22 revolver (my dad's)
They brought:
Beretta 92FS 9mm
Marlin 22 magnum bolt rifle
Some 12ga shotgun
The girls shot the BB rifle quite a bit, a couple of shots in the .22LR rifle and a lot of shots in with the .22 revolver. They were getting on the 6" Shoot & See target at 7 yards.
The ladies liked the .22 revolver. They were pretty accurate with it at 7 yards. We shot about 300 rounds of 9mm between the four adults and all three guns. The Beretta was a jam-o-matic, FTE or FTF on nearly every shot. My guns, on the other hand, were dead-nuts reliable. The S&W again was a particular joy to shoot and everyone's favorite of the 9mms. I have to say, when you could get it to fire, the Beretta was accurate and has a very light, short trigger. My DAO guns take a more deliberate effort to keep on target.
We all shot the .22 rifle and liked it a lot. It is positively a tack driver at 15 yards. In fact my wife liked it enough that I don't think it will take much convincing for me to talk her into buying one for me for Christmas this year :)
We also shot the 22 magnum rifle from 100m, with a scope. I don't know anything about rifle scopes. We were able to get within an inch of the bullesye on a regular pistol target from 100 yards. Shooting at that distance is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.
My wife shot the 12ga one time, it almost knocked her over. That was enough! The other couple shot it a couple of times at water bottles we tossed in the air.
We were out there nearly 4 hours. It was a lot of fun. However, I think next time, we will bring fewer guns. The bench was getting awfully crowded with three rifles, three pistols and a revolver.
Coming away, I think I am now convinced that my next firearm is likely to have to be a .22LR rifle. Probably a Ruger 10-22. I also am convinced that shooting 9mm pistols is much more tiring than I thought. The first few mags I shot through each of my guns were very good groups. Late in the day, the last two mags were barely on the target at all. That was late in the day and I had probably shot 300 rounds through various guns by then. I also figured out that I still need a LOT of practice at acquiring sights on a pistol. Next on my list is a CO2 BB pistol so I can practice on the cheap in the back yard, and we already were planning to buy a pellet rifle to shoot in the backyard.
It was a gorgeous day and a lot of fun.

Re: Nice Range Day
That's' great, Mr. 72! It is always wonderful to see a family go to the range together, and introduce their children to shooting the safe and right way. Safe handling of firearms passed down through the family will remain with them forever.
I can still remember my dad taking me for a day of shooting and teaching me about the safe way to handle guns with his .22 and then buying my first shotgun when I was about 10.
Thank you for the family outing report. God bless you and your family.

Re: Nice Range Day
Unfortunately my kids decided to stay home. They feared they'd get suckered into babysitting the twins. Last time we went to the range it was my dad, my 15 year old daughter and I. That was also fun. Next time we go out, I think it will be just my wife and I and our two girls.
Next weekend the girls and I plan to go camping out in Castell and bring the .22s along to plink a little bit.

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

LoL. I am *not* a gun person :)
I just happen to have a couple of guns. This is Texas. Who doesn't have a couple of guns?

Well, you may not be totally transformed yet, but just wait. You are definitely succumbing to our collective power of 'The Texas CHL Force' that we use on recently joined members to bring them to our ways!!mr.72 wrote:LoL. I am *not* a gun person :)

Re: Nice Range Day
We are planning a trip to the range because my CCL needs to be renewed. There is a range on the South side of Houston at Monroe and Old Galvesten rd that does ladies night on Monday. My wife and I have invited Led Jedi and his wife to join us and hope they make it. Its always fun to get together and try out each others equipment. (dont go there). I will be shooting my 1911 and may take my little 380.
