Concealed Weapon in Vehicle (No CHL Yet)

Hi all (first post!)
I've been hanging out (lurking) for a while on the forum (I've already applied and paid for my CHL online and I'll be taking the class/tests in less than two weeks with one of the Lamar's out at Hot Wells) so I'm not licensed at this point in time. I have been carrying concealed around the house, backyard and garage in the past month or so to get used to the feel and figure out which gun and which holster I'm going to go with... and I carry in my vehicle... but I still have not figured out the best way to conceal a weapon safely and with full effectiveness in my truck. The glove compartment seems unnecessarily cumbersome and too far away... under the seat would be too obvious a move... so how and where is the best place to conceal while in my vehicle? What do y'all think? Any suggestions?

If i don't have mine on my person it is between drivers seat and center console. Seems to work for me.

Most of it depends on the configuration of your interior. I think with some ingenuity you could rig up a holster between the driver's seat and center console or in the door pocket. Whatever you do, make sure the pistol is secure and won't go flying around the inside of the car in the event of an accident or having to lock up your brakes.

Thanks for the input, guys. I wonder if someone out there is making a CIV (Concealed In Vehicle) holster?

Part of the reason I started this thread is because there were two murders in the parking lot of a nearby Kroger just recently. Apparent car jackings gone bad.
It would be empowering to at least have some sort of strategy as to how to protect my family and survive a 'in-your-vehicle-in-a-parking-lot" situation.

The Pro-Tech holster looks the most concealed (and naturally accessible as one reached for the door)... although opening the door at your kid's house and showing your stuff kind of gives it away. I'd hate to have my local LEO seeing the other holster as he walked up to my window. Yikes!

I keep a Glock 19 with extra mag inside an old daytimer book with a zipper closure. I can put it on the seat or floor beside me and it's within easy reach if needed. I keep the zipper partially open so I can get my hand inside quickly. I can also carry it in and out without drawing any attention.

I have a Center of Mass vehicle safe on order for times when I have to leave it in the car while it's parked in a public area.

To conceal while you're in the vehicle? the Safepacker Holster from Wilderness Tactical Products might suit your needs. I've been thinking of getting one, although the Security Pro and Desantis holsters look like good alternatives. The Safepacker hides the pistol more thoroughly, but it also looks like it might take a second longer to deploy the pistol than the Security Pro or Desantis holsters. On the other hand, the Safepacker makes it easier to carry the pistol to and from your vehicle in a concealed manner if you're not yet licensed to carry concealed.
