"NO LOADED WEAPONS INSIDE" sign at range

I went to a different range than I usually go to since I called ahead they cited a 2.5 hr wait. So it was more time effective to drive the extra distance. When I arrived I was greeted with a "NO LOADED FIREARMS INSIDE" sticker on the door. Certainly by no means a valid 30.06 sign and certainly they would be aware of the correct wording/posting requirements.

Of course if I was carrying an uncased and unconcealed gun it would be with the action open. However I went about my business despite the sign.

Is is verbiage common at ranges you go to? Are they trying to address CHLer's with this?

It just sounds like it's a cold range until you're on the firing lane, I don't think it has anything to do with CHL's. There's a private range I go to, and it is a cold range. They don't allow you bring loaded firearms into the range. You have to wait to load them until you get to the firing lane.

That's how the Texas City range is. If you walk in the door with a firearm that is not locked back, pandemonium will break loose.

They don't care about concealed weapons as long as they stay concealed.

This has nothing to do with 30.06.

If you break the rules, they tell you to leave. If you break them twice, they tell you never to come back. Then 30.05 applies, and what do you think the Texas City police are going to do at the Texas City range?

Those signs are usually aimed at people bringing guns in for work or whatever.

Well I just called and asked their official policy (who better to ask). The person I talked to said "If you have a CHL and you're carrying as long as you keep it concealed that's your business. The only thing is if you walk in with a weapon it needs to be unloaded and locked back".

Edit: Oh yeah and he also finished by saying "I have my CHL and i'm wearing mine right now"

The range here in Plano I go to has a similar sign (all weapons brought into store must be unloaded), but when I took the CHL class there we were going over 30.06 rules and someone asked about the sign by the front door. The instructor just winked and said.. well if it's not a valid sign, then those with CHLs can just disregard it. However i have read range rules at other places that are completely cold and have it in the rules that CHL holders must unload before entering property.

The last time I was there, I was made by the rangemaster. He just asked that I take it out and lock the slide and leave it on the table with my ammo. He was profesional about it, but I still dont think it made alot of sense. I should have worn a longer shirt that day. He spotted the bottom of my holster while I was collecting my brass. He did tell me that they dont want people carrying on the rifle line regardless of CHL status.

I would not mess with either of the older guys. I have quite a bit of respect for them. Rules are rules, and concealed means concealed.

Yeah, that was him. He didnt give me any beef over it, just asked that I lock the slide open and remove the magazine and leave it on the table. It was my fault for letting it be seen. The guys that run the place are good people, and I too have alot of respect for them.

I like to do things that they don't allow, like shooting while moving; but I can see why they don't allow those things.

I was just at the range my grandfather goes to. They had a similar sign on the door saying no loaded weapons but it also said, there will be a $20 charge for us to unload it for you. My guess is that if they try to unload your weapon for you, you can just leave the place and not get the $20 charge. Of course if you want to shoot there, then you should have listened to the sign in the first place.

And of course that doesnt apply to chl. The sign is nowhere near a 30.06.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what the business is, if they don't have a valid 30.06 or 51% sign I am carrying.
