"Smith & Wesson said today that it's recalling all Walther PPK and PPK/S
guns manufactured between March 2002 and early this month.
"The Springfield firm said a defect could allow the weapon to go off without
anyone pulling the trigger."

Here's the official press release:
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/ ... onId=10506" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist in certain PPK and PPK/S pistols which may permit a round to be discharged without the trigger being pulled. When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson’s Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire.
They fix it free and pay shipping both ways.

That is annoying i guess i won't be carrying for a while then. Mine has never given me any problems. I carry it without a round in the chamber simply because it has no real stop from the hammer hitting the firing pin if i were to drop it. I never did like that the hammer goes down when the safety was reengaged and the hammer goes down, i never use the safety on mine i just treat it as though it is always hot. I also use my thumb to decock it. So i never used their function anyway.
Thanks for the post

At least I received my LCP back from Ruger before the PPKS had to go back to S&W...

I really have to question Walther's quality these days. they're just not what they used to be.

They're made in the U.S. by Smith & Wesson. The original Walther and those sold overseas are made in Germany.
I should say, though, it's possible that this problem was observed once in however many thousand pistols were manufactured, and the company is playing it safe.
The pistols were on the California "safe" list, FWIW.

smith and wesson is a weird company, I think they make the best revolvers but make some of the worst autos, imo

Apparently you have never shot an M&P. They are great guns, as is their 1911.
