My new carry...

I picked up my Pro Raptor II today and headed to the range this afternoon. With 150 rounds of various brands down range the Raptor was flawless. I’m very happy with this gun so far and it is very accurate. Looks like it’s going to end up being my new carry gun.







I also have to show some love for my Springer Loaded.

Congratulations, that's a beautiful pistol for sure. It's much prettier than my Kimber Custom Target II or my PT1911.

I guess it's just me but, shouldn't a pistol that costs as much as a Kimber or a PT1911 be flawless out of the box? Really now, if this or any other pistol requires 3-500 rounds for "break-in", why isn't this done at the factory rather than ship out an unsafe product?

Anybody see where I'm going with this?

What specifically led you to the Raptor over other models? Just curious.

I have a few Kimbers and love 'em all. My only nit is that I wish the ambidextrous safety was an option, not standard. I prefer my carry 1911 have an extended, but not ambi, safety.

From the first time I saw one of the Raptors I knew I just had to have one and coming from the custom shop was a big plus. I agree about the safety and I'm debating on sending it to the custom shop to have that modified.

This is my new carry, the Micro Desert Eagle. I bought it Wednesday and shot it Friday 4/9/09 at Top Gun. It has more kick than I expected, but it is very accurate, much better than I expected. It fits very comfortably in my back pocket and I can sit down on it without noticing it. I will have it with me everywhere now, except where it's illegal by 30.06.

That is a very good choice. Micro Eagles are very accurate, I bought one last December. They do tend to jam at first but put some more rounds through it and that takes care of itself. Also, the tigger becomes much better after some use. Here's a pic of mine...

What is the gun on the top?

Very cool. Now I need a bigger gun to keep around the house. So far I have a .32 Walther PPK, and now the Micro Desert Eagle. My next gun will be a bigger one, maybe a 9mm and one that I can carry, but only when I have the time to rig up something to conceal it. The PPK and the Micro Desert Eagle are easy to conceal, but the Micro Desert Eagle wins the prize for ease of carry.

That little MDE retails for more than a full-size handgun (non-custom). I was considering an LCP or a gun such as the MDE, but that price really throws me off.

I see exactly, and the discussion can lead to a extremely long debate. If I have a small issue with a new 1911, I've found it's usually an extractor problem that's easily remedied by tension adjustment. After 150 rounds, if it doesn't function properly, send it back. I personally would not carry a gun that hasn't fired a minimum of 500 consecutive rounds with absolutely no problems.

I agree as well. I decided to go ahead and give this Kimber a try even though I've read that some people have had problems with Kimbers out of the box. I just couldn't pass it up. I'm still carrying my xd 40sc till I'm absolutely positive there will be no problems. I'll be putting another 200 or so rounds through it this coming weekend and see how it does.

Purplehood, I agree that the MDE is pretty pricey but I held some of the other little guns and found the MDE just felt better, more like a real gun, and it is a very accurate shooter as well.

Reason why I'm asking, is .... I have a XD .45 tactical .... carried it awhile, found out, I was getting tired of the size.
Now I daily carry a Kahr CW40 ( Sweet ) But thinking 'bout carrying the XD Big Daddy !
Alot of us here .... bear it out and carry the full size.

And as a left handed shooter, I wish they ALL came with ambidextrous safeties. Maybe it's a concession to the fact that 15% of their target market needs a safety on the right side of the pistol? After all, if you're a manufacturer of expensive pistols, and 150 out of ever 1000 potential customers are steered away from buying your product, toward buying the product of a competitor who offers essentially the same pistol with the added convenience of an ambidextrous safety, then you're walking away from thousands of dollars of revenue.

I'll warrant that the vast majority of right-handed owners of 1911s don't give a rip whether or not their pistol has an ambidextrous safety. I'd be willing to bet that the percentage of right-handed 1911 owners who object to an ambidextrous safety is smaller than the potential market of left-handed 1911 buyers. For my money, they should ALL be made with an ambidextrous safety - and just for once in their lives, right-handers would have to spend the extra money to make a pistol exclusively right handed (just like left-handers have to do almost every time they buy a pistol) instead of dismissing the concerns of the left-handed world.
