If you had ~$1500 to spend...

If you had ~$1500 to spend at a gun show, say maybe This One...

What would you buy?

I ask, because this situation may be occurring to me in the near future for a birthday present spend-a-thon :)

I'm still deciding myself, but I thought it would be interesting to see what other people would do in my shoes, and perhaps get some suggestions myself :)

I'm currently building my collection, after separating from the military a few years ago, and convincing the wife (with calm, logical educational data) that Guns do not jump up and kill you in your sleep. I was raised on a farm with a rifle in my arms, (I have a picture of myself at 4 years old, holding a black powder rifle I won at a raffle), and she's from Europe. Luckily not from the UK, but rather up in Finland. Her father owned a hunting rifle, but AFAIK, they are not allowed to own handguns there at all, in addition to other restrictions.

She's not a gun nut (yet  ) but she was interested in learning how to use and shoot them in case she had to, and I gladly showed her. I'm currently waiting for my CHL to arrive :thumbs2:

Anyways, my current collection (If you can call it that yet):

-Remington 1100 12ga
-Colt Combat Elite (New '08 Issue)

I'd like to eventually own a nice bolt action (30-06? 308?), a carbine of some sort, a Garand (who doesn't?), a Nagant (In case I ever need to pole vault over my fence and carry a rifle at the same time, might as well get both in one package). I'd also like to own a smaller sub-compact for Carry, as the 1911 is a bit large and won't work with every outfit (although, I Will carry it whenever I can, love 1911's and love .45ACP :fire ) Maybe a XD 3".

Anyways, Let the suggestions begin!

I'd buy my wife an over-under shotgun for skeet. You used to be able get quite a satisfactory one for that amount. I don't know what actual market prices are in this time of madness.

these days, you could get 4 large pistol primers, and maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe A small pistol primer...

me, what I'd wanna get you don't usually see at a gunshow, like a new Kimber, or a low-end STI or Wilson Combat.

How about a decent safe to house your future collection and maybe a Rock Island compact 1911? If thers any left, buy some ammo to shoot with.

Blatant plug for a friend. Keep an eye out for Cypress Firearms at gun shows. He is a master dealer for STI and Wilson. Next show will be George R Brown if you are in the area.

After parking and admission you should have enough left over for two or three boxes of .380 or one AR15.

Go to the gun show and find the NRA booth. Write them a check for $1,500. Maybe then you can keep the guns you already own. ;-) ;-)

Actually, you might consider a nice SAKO in 25.06. I'm sure the wife would love to have the reminder of her home country especially if she gets to shoot it.

Congratulations on your opportunity.

We should all be so lucky! Pick wisely, these chances don't come around often. :thumbs2:

Thanks for the info:

bpet: Just sent the NRA & TSRA my money for the next 3 years ;)

I agree, the current madness is just that, and I'm not buying into it really, however, I still want to continue to build my aresn... collection :smilelol5:

I'm thinking practically, I should get another, smaller, carry handgun for when I get my CHL. I want to carry 24/7/365 and a full-size 1911 may make that difficult in some situations.

But if I do that, I'll have about $400-600 left over, which is enough to Start an AR build...

I dunno... too many options!

The safe is a great idea. You can also use it for jewelry, gold coins, vital documents, etc.

This is a classic bubble market. It will collapse. People who overextended themselves to buy weapons or thousands of dollars' worth of ammunition are going to run into hard times, and prices will come down.

I'm guessing you're saying that there's going to be a flood of barely used firearms on the market soon :)

Might want to wait for that for major purchases then ;)

Yes. I don't know how anyone can afford to shoot, even if ammo was to be found. I haven't fired a shot since January.

I'd go with a .357 revolver and a .357 carbine. Both weapons take .38/.357. Easy to reload, and easy to keep track of the spent cases. Easy to load special light loads for plinking and play. Or hot and fast for "effect".
I think of these as common "country" tools.

Agree on the .357/.38 Spl Revolver.
Recommend the Ruger SP 101 for the wife to learn on and have available just in case.
